Rank PNE's Best to Worst Managers

Rank PNE's Best to Worst Managers

Worst has to be Graham Alexander.
100% loss rate.
Appalling!

I reckon Alexander will be looking at this squad and wondering if Heck has had a mental breakdown/drink problem

How a manager can be here for 2 and a bit years and along with James Wallace, build a squad that he has no idea what formation to play with them is actually laughable.

This is it for me. What happened over summer is probably the worst managerial decisions I think I’ve ever seen. We are talking Sunday league level.

People can say recency bias all you want but to not know what formation you want to play four games into a season is incompetence at its finest. He spent the best part of 15
Million doing it as well.

It was insane. When you get win percentages in the range of Westley and Heck it's time to slice it other ways. At the end of the day, Westley was a joke but he's a joke that slashed the wage bill whilst also bringing in influencial players like Huntington, Laird, Buchanan and Welsh.

As ridiculous as it seems, Westley was the better PNE manager of the two Nobody on the list has left the club in as bad a state as Heck with perhaps the exception of Ferguson with the Man U recalled loans. Alexander has it as hard as any of these guys did.

I'm a bit put out by the Hecky revisionism here - he did a good job for half of his time here, got us to an FA Cup QF and 3rd in the league less than a year ago. God knows how the wheels fell off but it wasn't all bad at all.

It might be very interesting to hear his side of it one day in a book or whatever. I suspect more was going on behind the scenes.

You can’t have a 27% win ratio, be in two relegation battles and then be considered to do a good job for half the time. That’s a ridiculous statement. In fact I think its
Outlandish that you think that. It’s not just last season we went on a bad run it was also the season before. We also made our worst start to a season in our history this season.

It’s not revisionism. I was quite vocal throughout most of his time that Hecky was not a good manager. I would have quite happy see him sacked at the end of last season or the season before.

We have now wasted an entire pre season by keeping him because the bloak couldn’t make his mind up and we are now lumbered with players who aren’t suited to a fixed formation. What ever formation we play it will be square pegs on round holes. He also spent more than any manager in our history including a club record (at the time) on Calum fucking lang. Grezza has a horrid job to try and keep us up and that is because of Paul Heckingbottom.

I can only imagine that such a book would be exceedingly boring indeed.

Ridsdale: 'spend 2 years signing players that won't allow you play any formation effectively and do that now, Paul.'

Either something like the above was true or he didn't know what he was doing.

As for the FA cup run...fucking hell, I'm surprised you even mention it. He and the squad essentially stopped doing anything the moment we went out. Does anyone look back on that season with any kind of fondness? It was a fucking horror show. Plymouth at home more toxic than anything I've experienced.

Sure, there were good times under Frankie Mac too. There were good times under Simpson when we were top of the league for a while. Football seasons can't really be judged on spells. They don't end three months early when you are doing well.

In terms of damage, nobody has left us in this much bother.

Add in the fact that he chose to extend the contracts of three average at best defenders (Hughes has been decent but clearly is past it) plus Brady (and potts.)

People have Hecky credit when we sold players (no idea why?) but refuse to criticise him for the fact we kept three average centre backs and two ‘wing backs’ despite them spending majority of the time injured. That is just rank bad management.
