Hi everyone,

I’m Neeeel, and I’m writing my first post here to introduce myself as one of the recently elected members of the Fan Advisory Network (FAN).

I’ve been a lurker on the forum, but I wanted to step out of the shadows because I’m interested in representing a specific part of our fanbase: the "Exiles" and remote fans.

I’m a remote fan myself, living away from Preston, with a professional background in technology. Because I don't get to attend in person every week, I see first hand both the challenges and the massive untapped opportunities in how the club connects with those of us watching from afar.

With the club publicly looking for new ownership/investment, I believe there is a lot about PNE that makes us unique and interesting... We have a unique identity that stands out in a crowded English pyramid, including:
  • The Original Invincibles: Our status as founding members and first Double winners.
  • The Dick, Kerr Ladies: Trailblazers in women’s football history.
  • Cultural Icons: From the Wallace & Gromit/Nick Park connection to the recent viral success of the Spud Bros.
  • The Gentry: A tradition unlike any other in the EFL.
  • ...and more!
By strengthening our outreach to remote fans and potentially better-utilising technology, we can make PNE a much more attractive prospect for the "right" type of future owner—someone who sees the value in a club with deep roots but a modern, global reach.

The FAN meets every month. and I want to take your thoughts directly to an upcoming meeting.
  • How can the club make you feel more "connected" to Deepdale when you aren’t there, and to the club in general?
  • What digital content or "Exile" benefits are we missing?
  • How can we better celebrate those unique quirks (like the Spud Bros or our history) to grow the fanbase? Or even should we?
  • ...and anything else in this area that is on your mind.
I’m looking forward to hearing any ideas or thoughts.

Give @Spaceballs a shout, he runs the North American supporters group.

As @MBcha mentioned, I run the NA Supporter's Group and personally have been a supporter for over 20 years now. Feel free to DM me for other questions but I will give a brief answer to some of the above no worries.

  • In answer to your first question about how the club can make exiled or remote fans feel more welcome, I think it would beehoove those at the club to engage more with us if that makes sense. Could be something as simple as us hosting a watch party and they mention it on their socials or something similar. Also, maybe have us sponsor a player as well or an initiative at the club that we are fond of, etc.
  • Digital content imo is fine for now unless there would be a way for us to interact as one whole supporter system if that makes sense(i.e. have supporter groups meet virtually every other month or more regularly to discuss ideas, etc).
  • The members of the NA group has grown a bit and I put a lot of that on the SpudBros tbh. Social media stars such as they are will really help bring in a new subset of fans that PNE was not really reaching before. They brothers do a great job themselves about repping PNE in all they do and should continue to do so. The Gentry and the other things you mention should most definitely be talked about with any potential owners, investors, etc. No reason to leave them out, they are what makes this club so special to so many people and why PNE is an attractive proposition for someone to want to get involved in. I think having something similar to a documentary about the club in terms of its history, would be very good in the short and long run. Nothing like that club in Wales did mind, more about our history only.
Overall, I think our PNE is improving in some areas but of course still need to do better in others. I have faith that they will.

Again, DM me if need anything else.

Hello Neeeeel. Is FAN a PNE thing or an EFL one?

I have no idea if a fair solution can be found, but ticket pricing for typical exiles is now pretty punitive - the way that matchday prices have increased markedly, at the same time as ST prices are now lower than they were.
I understand why it’s been done. But three tickets for a single match in the Finney is over a hundred quid. And an exile family has high travel costs. Do that 8 times in a season and it’s two grand or much more. That’s clearly a barrier and feels like a penalty to an exile - almost all of whom could not hope to get to the majority of matches but who do display as much loyalty as many ST buyers.
Of course I understand the issues and not sure that there’s a solution.

To be honest the club has gone backwards in the Media world, Now just post random crap. I miss the Build up Video's etc. I have since found out that our Fan base in Essex is a lot Larger than I originally thought. We've had a chat about a lot of things PNE, we all said the same, The Club is not doing enough to interact with its fan base. Not just Exiles, but those in Preston. I have been for a while, but its always the Same Music and some guy on the Tannoy talk at fans and not interacting. I been to See Southend play as they close to me and I get invites. They've been getting the Crowd going, Mascot does his Stuff, Tannoy not to Loud. The Singing Section at Drummer behind the Goal in the Centre, Makes a better experience. But you look at Derby, Leeds etc, The Guy on the Tannoy whips the crowd up, they have their Fan song (UB40 Falling in Love is a no), We need one for the club that the Fans can Identity with and sing a long to. You can hardly here the Home Crowd on TV, not because they not Singing, but because they crammed in the Corner. Might as well be in the Car Park.

Back to Exiles, I can't say there is anything that willing to risk the long Journey, No advertising, No media output, nothing. Why not have an online Version of the Program we can read as part of Ifollow oe a seperate (my Prefered) option. Ifollow is over priced and way behind the game for me.

I try to bring the Goals as they go in on the Forum, I am always faster than PNE on Social Media or LEP, Often faster than Sky. How about Faster updates from the Club (not someone from Essex) and Add Advertising to it. - GOAL... OSAMJIC. Goal Sponsored by Tony's Pizza (Example) Makes the Club Money and keeps us informed better.
  • What digital content or "Exile" benefits are we missing?
Program, Build up, After Match interviews and reactions, They all just Sound Bites and short form.
  • How can we better celebrate those unique quirks (like the Spud Bros or our history) to grow the fanbase? Or even should we?
Open a Spudbros in Essex I will be there.
  • ...and anything else in this area that is on your mind.
Send Butter Pies (jokes) There is Nothing the club couldn't do. How about FREE Live Feed of the Build up etc, Then Game Kicks off, It reverts to The Website Screen of the Score Updates page. (like Lancs Sport do on the Radio), Then at Full Time the Feed goes back to the Camera for Reaction and Video's we can all watch, not just Exiles.

Did we ever offer something like a flexible Season Ticket at one point, maybe along the lines of say a 6 or 10 match season ticket priced between a full/half season ticket and match day prices. Issue them as discount codes so you can then purchase tickets for the games you can attend without it needing to be as restrictive as the half season ticket for example. Obviously will create an overhead in administering but if it convinces more to make a journey that they maybe wouldn’t. Likewise could be a risk that if successful you may reach a point that there isn’t enough space but I guess as long as the T&Cs point that it doesn’t guarantee a ticket for every game just an option to use if there are tickets remaining.
