I would just like to praise Paul Simpson & Billy Barr for fielding squad members currently out of the 1st team to keep up / build their fitness. Its something Davies never did just in case they got injured and possibly over working the youth players having to play 2 games a week, but it is good for the 1st team squad to have fit players on the bench as well on the pitch. Mellor, O'Neil, Agy, McCormack, Lonners, Hill, Stock & Anyinsah are all in the squad to play today

Re: Reserves

How long will he play for? The full 90 to get fitness - or just, say, 45, if Simpson is planning to use him from the bench on Saturday?

Re: Reserves

Who knows, I just want to see the players trying to show they're worthy of playing for PNE, and getting back into contention for the squad.

The last player who used the reserves for that was David Jones.

Re: Reserves

The full squad is as follows: -
Lonergan, McCormack, Hill, Beattie, O'Neil, Stock, Anyinsah, Jarrett, Agyemang, Mellor, Neal, Parillon, Thompson, McGrail, Maloney, Mainwaring.

(From http://www.pnefc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10362~892699,00.html?)

-----------------Nash
Wilson, St. Ledger, Chilvers, Grezza
Whaley, Sedgwick, McKenna, Pugh
-----------Nugent, Dichio

That's the implied starting lineup for Saturday then, though we could se Jarrett re-appear.

Re: Reserves

I suppose it is a score that makes sense. We had several midfielders and forwards of first team pedigree but apart from Lonergan in goal only one defender in the same category.

I havent seen the goals or the full team but people keep calling out for lonners over nashy but if you look thats another 4 he has shipped today.

Re: Reserves

In my younger days I would watch the reserves all the time, with my sister Millie and a bag of sarsparilla drops. In them days if a player had a bad 'un on the Saturday he'd be stuck in the stiffs and only if he played well would he be picked for the next game.

It strikes me that these players have any easy life. Just because htey're playing today doesn't mean they're not right for Saturday. You wouldn't get Tommy Finney complaining about playing twice in a week, and the ball was like a boulder and the pitch like a quagmire.

Re: Reserves

It is absolutely to be expected that Lonergan should be lacking in real match sharpness and even to some extent basic fitness after his lay-off. He is still a quality keeper. It may, in fact, require him to be loaned out for some real first team action for a couple of months to get him back to required levels.

Re: Reserves

I agree. The only people that have asked for Lonergan back would be in that thread where people stated their choice of starting XI were the whole squad fully fit.

As Lonners isn't fully fit and match sharp, I doubt anybody would choose to bring him back right now.

Re: Reserves

I got a detailed match report from somebody who was there, he said we murdered them, their goals were 2 deflections a penalty and another scrappy one.... The penalty was very dubious too.... The scoreline doesn't represent the performance he said.
