The Gentry RIP Willie Irvine
The last time I saw him play I was on holiday in Hollywood in 1979. I switched on the tv and there was a football match between two American teams. Willy Irvine was on one team and Gerry Ingram was on the other.
RIP Willie.
Saw virtually all his home games. One of my all time PNE heroes
Was also a Northern Ireland international.

He was my favourite North End player at the time and besides watching him play, and score, for us I also went to see him play for Northern Ireland against England at Wembley.

Gutted. My dad had a greengrocers in fulwood back in the day. Willie was a customer. I was a youngster and he took me to a game and introduced me to the players before the game. No idea what game but he was a real gent.
I was so proud when I watched him on TV in the home internationals.

I'll never forget a fantastic close attempt with a diving header v England in Belfast in one of the 'Home Internationals'. It was possibly the same game as when 'Bestie' ( his rooming-mate for the NI team ) put the ball in the net but which was disallowed for 'impeding'.
I believe his goals saved up from the drop.

One of the earliest players I saw play- seemed better times then
One of my early heroes, i thought 'World Cup Willie' was great and apparently he was slightly on the wane @ PNE, so he must have been one hell of a Player @ Burnley.
