Russell

Russell

I tell you what, I am furious. Charlton will get another 3 points today contributed by a high paid Preston North End player. Now I'm not saying by any means that Charlton are our promotion rivals or anything but the whole debacle makes me sick. Rant over, UTW's !

Whatever some on here think, Russell's an excellent player. As he's showing playing and scoring for the side who are top of the table. Hopefully he will be back in our team when his loan's up. He'll have gone at least one place up the pecking order now anyway, ahead of Ian Ashbee who must now find himself rolling around in no-man's land. Which let's be honest, has been the case every time he's stepped foot on a pitch for North End this season.

We have loads of central midfielders and still haven't been able to pick a decent pairing or threesome since the early season run where Nicholson coutts and Alexander played. But that three left us vulnerable to any time with width who were all over our fullbacks.

Russell when he came in looked competent to me and Doyle reminds me of him although Russell has a bit moe going forward.

It is galling that we loan him to top of the league where he seems to have fit in and we had to outside the club to get someone in his position when we have ashby Alexander Nicholson Barton coutts Middleton miller and Clark already.

I liked phil brown and his initial positivity but I cannot help thinking that if management is about getting the best out of what you have he failed. The lack of money and a number of injuries are mitigation, as is the fact that time was called on him, but his initial winless run and the dreadful October and November run were not good enough.

Russell can still do a job for us and maybe a new manager will let that happen but his wage, relative to Doyle or any other replacement, will be the biggest factor.

If Doyle go's back to Barnsley after his loan spell Russell is like for like replacement in my opinion. Now the Brown one has left we might see the best of him...

The McCombe and Doyle deals will have sealed Brown's fate almost as much as the horrific form and lacklustre displays. Hemmings will have seen an alarming pattern of events just like Irvine.

We buy Maclean then replace him with McCombe. What has happened ot Maclean? Anyone?

We have a player like Russell, loan him out then replace him with a carbon, arguably marginally inferior, copy in Doyle.

Whilst i agree that Brown's dealings have been baffling i think that McCombe and Doyle have contributed to us being a lot more solid and both look like decent players to me. I thought McCombe had an execellent game this afternoon.

From the looks of things to be fair to Brown, Doyle is in fact the better version of Russel, he reads the game much better and I thought was excellent tonight. A few sliding tackles which saved us, the whole defence was immense tonight but I think that Doyle is a better tackler than Russel. Saying that Russel may be better coming forward, but for the job they would both be doing in our team of holding behind Coutts then Doyle is the best by some distance.

Great news that he plays. Great news that he scores. If they want him longer or permanently the price has just gone up. If they don't want him we get a player back who is match fit and confident. Are you mad!!

I wouldn't have said McCombe was excellent today. He was lucky to stay on the field today and was found out for pace on a few occasions. However when he was found out, especially for the second "yellow" incidant, I think he did the right thing by fouling the man before he had a clear goalscoring opportunity. I'm still on the fence over him.

Coutts and Doyle look like our strongest center midfield partnership for quite some time, if we manage to keep hold of Coutts in Jan and also sign Doyle permanently it would definately help with a push for the play offs. As for Russell , if we can keep Doyle let him go , he is a high earner who is not as good as Doyle and has never looked comfortable in his time at Deepdale for whatever reason. Is it just me or does Doyles style of play remind you of a certain Mark Rankine ?

Coutts is our best player and has been out of position all season thanks to clueless Brown. He was brilliant last night and needs his contract lengthening.
