Don’t know if there is a thread about him but it’s an interesting topic as some believe he’s just not bothered anymore and gives up too easily so I just wondered what everyone thought about him
From what I have seen, he’s been off the boil for a few games now, but imo he’s getting a very hard time from a lot of people on here. He’s been dropping to around the 6/10 performances but we see some “vocal” posts that suggest he’s at more like the 2/10 mark.
I see it as a dip in form. I do not see it as a lack of effort.

same as you.... no reason to keep him. not the sort of player to fit in here. let's develop Mads and get quicker players in. thor can take free kicks and milly the penaltiesClass player. Love him. Get him on a 4yr deal with a +1 option for £25k asap.
Might get myself a Greenwood tattoo in the Summer.

Let's not forget that the lad has only just turned 23 and is only in his second full season of senior football. If he could perform at his best consistently, he wouldn't be here this season, nevermind next!

I wouldn’t be breaking the bank for him but if we get him for cheap enough then bring him in.
Provides competition for mads.

He's definitely had a poor run of form. Thankfully it's coincided with Mads really stepping up.
Maybe Greenwood knows he won't be here next season, maybe it's just a genuine dip in form. All I know is that I'd have been delighted to sign the first half of the season version, but would be horrified to be spending over a million on the current version. I did think his first 20 minutes on Tuesday were like the old him, but then he really faded out of the game.
Do we NEED to add him to a midfield of McCann, Ledson, Whiteman, Steffy, Mads, Potts? Probably not, especially when it seems certain we'll need at least one new striker.

Not been playing well for a couple of months now. Hecky alluded to it the other day (I can't find which article it was in) but for a few games he's been doing a job for the team essentially in central midfield and he appears to be better/more comfortable playing off the striker, like Mads has recently.
Hopefully he can regain some form because there is a player in there. Should we sign him permanently? Jury is out on that so let's see how he finishes the season. Certainly not for massive wages. I would imagine the predictions of 20-30k are well wide of the mark..not a chance we'd pay that.
I don't think it's a lack of effort. I think he's just not a very good Championship central midfielder.

He's an excellent man-manager. Never criticises players publicly. As we saw with both Bowler and Okkels (remember him?) Hecky often took the heat out of any player criticism by saying it was down to his tactics or his approach to games even when clearly they were just a bit shit really.

I think that's a good point and I hadn't really considered it. Complete opposite to Lowe in that respect who couldn't wait to throw players under the bus...I do think that he rates/trusts Greenwood more than those two though, as evidenced by their lack of minutes for us.
Okkels (remember him?)
I was close to forgetting with Thracia not posting much in the last week or so. Thanks for reminding me 😭

This current system doesn't suit him at all. He isn't a playmaker where he should be having a lot of ball responsibility as the sole 10, and nor does he suit LCM. He's better picking the ball high up near the box where he can either have a reasonable shot or whip a ball in.Not been playing well for a couple of months now. So if it's the plan to play this moving forward, it'd be a pass from me. As he'd just be squad player but one likely on quite high wages.

I think he was our player of the season until the start of December. Since then, he's been one of the worst.
Still only young (only just turned 23) so would definitely take the risk as the talent is clearly there and £1.1m is a bargain these days for a player with 100ish Championship appearances.
Hopefully Heckingbottom and McCall can do what they've done with Mads and make him more consistent.

Problem is I don’t know what system suits him. You’re absolutely right hes not a playmaker, but he was also broadly ineffective playing the Akpom role at Boro, collecting the ball off the striker and having a shot, and he was even less effective playing as a winger. So I don’t really know how you set up to get the best out of himThis current system doesn't suit him at all. The only thing I can think of would be the Alex Neil style that got the best out of Browne. But we don’t have the squad for that

I think he would be decent off the left, but it'd have to be with a good overlapping full back who will provide the width, as he's no touchline winger, so would need to be an inside forward. Which is where he was playing through the first half of the season at Boro, but then got moved up front, and was a bit in and out of the team after that.Problem is I don’t know what system suits him. But he was good for us whenever he's played more of a 2nd striker role. But we need to have a playmaker higher up too.
But our current system we're playing has neither of those roles.

And when he plays the second striker role, it inevitably ends up with either him and Osmajic too close together and miles away from the midfield. Or close to the midfield but miles away from each otherI think he would be decent off the left, but it'd have to be with a good overlapping full back who will provide the width, as he's no touchline winger, so would need to be an inside forward. You can introduce Mads to link the play but playing with Greenwood seems to knee cap Mads play. You sort of need two Greenwoods to make it work. One dropping slightly deeper and one playing off the striker. Mads doesn’t do that first role, he’s better picking up pockets of space

Yeah there isn't particularly a system that they'd both work in other than 4231 where Mads can have the free role of the 10 on his own, and Greenwood can play as an attacking inside forward with an overlapper behind him.And when he plays the second striker role, it inevitably ends up with either him and Osmajic too close together and miles away from the midfield. Otherwise it does seem to be that Mads loses some of that free role ability that he thrives with when Greenwood has central responsibility.
