Did I see correctly on sky last night out of 122 corners we’ve scored the grand total of One goal . Why do we almost always try the same routine , every one stand close together near the middle of the area and try to win a header ,which we very rarely do .
Yes Lindsay had a good chance last night but still missed. We do vary the odd one but then revert back to the same tried tested and failed corner routine ,

The same with throw ins the amount of time we lose the ball almost immediately from our throws as we have virtually no movement apart from eventually one player who just plays it back to the thrower who then just hoofs it forward or kicks it backwards. We very rarely take a quick one and throw it forward to a runner .
Despite the very good performance last night I feel this is an area we should be looking to improve and whoever the set piece coach is needs a good kick up the arse ,or get someone else in l

We should copy the Arsenal routine at corners as it works well for them…Man Utd copied it the other week and it nearly paid off….but yes we just need to try different options i mean how hard can It be to try something new in training and add it into the game.

What about goals from second phases, are these counted? No idea if we've scored many from them, like.

We actually seem to win the first header a lot, but never ends up in the net.

It won’t be that many nobody hardly has shots that find the target from outside the area . and as for winning the first header often I don’t think we do .

The weirdest part is, the average quality of our set pieces is usually quite good. Both Thor & Greenwood are very consistent with their delivery, we quite often win the header but then rarely threaten.

Linday should've buried last night. Never known someone as good at winning headers and as poor at directing them

When we have a kick off we seem to be piling everyone down one side of the pitch. The opposition then mirror this defensively in their half of the pitch.
Why don't we have whoever the ball is rolled back to ping it down the opposite wing and have one of our players ready for that to happen. Whoever it is will have a quarter of the pitch to run into and start an attack right from the get-go.
Just something I thought about on Saturday.

Sadly the nasty opposition don’t just stand still while we kick it and if ( for instance) KKH went wide to the right one of their players would mirror him and the amount of time the ball was in the air would give enough time to get across.

Think we need to dip the oppositions boots in glue Gromit.

Happy to have a £10 bet for charity that the first time we tried it if the ball was decent we’d create a chance. No team
Is preparing defensively for it to happen. As they all do the same thing all the time. Leftfield thinking is required.

I don’t disagree at all, there seems to be too much “coaching manual” in football generally and an occasional curveball can be a good thing.

Think we are more likely to try something under PH than Lowe, but there is a lack of imagination on the pitch and seemingly in training too, all across the game.

I've said it another thread, the game is being treated too much like American football with set plays. Players not being allowed to think about doing something on the spot and being trusted to adjust things on the pitch. Pep plays football a certain way and it's now affected how virtually every team plays around the World.

At least we have a manager now who recognises what we aren’t doing well at and wants to look to improve it. Makes a change from a manager pretending we attack well.

I see a big improvement in our defensive work (especially since Christmas.) we would be on course for four clean sheets in a row if the ref did his job properly Tuesday night.

PH: “So, I've just gone through so many different ways there that can help us score goals and that's every player. Whether that's delivery from set plays and people attacking it.“

It would help, say, at corners/wide free kicks, if players would on (every?) occasion stop running towards goal before the ball is delivered, resulting in defenders being able to defend space/players while facing away from their goal. Our players are stationary facing the ball, or worse on occasion have run in and the delivered ball is behind them, & they cannot in either case “attack it.”

Delay the run, run towards the ball in flight, meaning you can “attack it.” Possible & easier to direct the ball towards goal with power. Defenders are turned & running towards their own goal adding uncertainty, problems between their keeper & defenders, or own goals.

Scoring from 1 corner out of 122 (despite decent delivery) is, to my mind, an unacceptable statistic for professional players at any level. PH cannot & patently isn’t happy with that statistic & S McC must be of similar mind. And yet, we repeat the same process the majority of the time expecting a different outcome?

I’d suggest we may need, at least, a different set piece coach.
