Confirmed Smith joins Mansfield

Considering the stick he gets, he was much better value than many others before him. 3 goals as a cheap bit part player.

Really tailed off big time in the second half of the season...combination of age and confidence id expect.

Thanks for the efforts and best of luck to him at a more suitable level.

Good luck to him. Can’t fault his workrate, just not a Championship striker unless used in a very selective way. Ran his backside off despite some abuse from the fans, so no ill feeling towards him

Agree though just not a Championship striker at all. This is best for everyone.

Good luck, one PNE website, it’s saying that he is leaving PNE for a undisclosed fee,
Michael Smith has joined Sky Bet League One side Mansfield Town on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee.
but below I’ve posted what Mansfield has said about signing Michael for a free transfer, so what is it?

Mansfield Town are delighted to announce the signing of striker Michael Smith on a two-year deal.

The 34-year-old joins the club from Preston North End on a free transfer, bringing a wealth of experience having played over 500 senior games.

Probably North End trying to save some face.

Perhaps it's us who paid the undisclosed fee 😂

Was asked to do things he was simply incapable of. I thought he had a good football brain and a nice touch, but no legs at all. I think he could do a good job for Mansfield and I wish him all the best in the future.

As others have said just not cut out at this level anymore, but he goes with my best wishes. He had a thankless task at times considering expectations of him, our inability to work with his strengths and around his limitations, and having to fill in for our absent players (Jebbison when injured and Osmajic when suspended).

I don't think any of us were expecting him to play as much as he did, but I can't hold any malice to a player that is limited but tries. Right move for everyone involved.
