In my opinion raefil is a very tolerant poster and moderator on here and rarely does he get directly involved in conflicts by joining in or by picking sides. He is consistently impartial in such matters as I feel a mod should be.
He is also honest enough to admit when he has made mistakes in the past. And let's be honest, not many of us can admit such things publicly. It's a very good trait to have in my opinion and is one I can admire in anyone.
I may not agree with his reaction to WIBG but I can see it was done as he felt a button was pushed that he could not sit back and ignore.
I also understand some of the history between the two which is bound to make peace and non confrontation a very fragile truce shall we say.
I don't believe raefil set out with the deliberate intention to abuse WIBG. I feel in his mind it was perhaps more of a heat of the moment reaction.
I won't dwell on the history or use it to justify his reaction as I don't see what good that would do to open these things up again.
In summary, I think he's a very good mod. But he's also a human being and therefore is not perfect. Who is. WIBG certainly isn't perfect either, nor am I for that matter.

I have a lot of time for Raefil, and his first term was a breathe of fresh air. Nothing can take that away. However, I do disagree with him most emphatically when it come to mod conduct.
In short, I don`t expect Moderators to engage in actions on this forum that they are elected to prevent.
There was a point..in which you yourself were heavily involved....a few months ago when the pair of you engaged in some of the most disgraceful personal hounding I`ve ever seen on this forum..short of deletion. I am referring to your joint attacks on 6pence, usually on economic matters. The fact that two mods were involved made it worse.
To be fair, 6pence should have reported it, and/or other mods should have had a quiet word with Raefil. This is one reason why I state there has been a systemic failure.
There is much said about how Mods should/shouldn`t behave when elected...personally, I`ll say this again, I think they SHOULD be able to moderate their own behaviour and set an example..to a degree at least. Even Mossy..I remember well, when we were both mods...felt constrained at times by the green badge, and his posting style is one of the more `flamboyant`, shall we say.
You're entitled to your opinion as we all are.
In regards to 6pence. This is rather diverting away from the current matter I feel.
But I will say that personally I'm quite happy with my philosophy of initially treating people how I would like to be treated myself. And after that treating people as they have treated me.
Both are philosophies I'm very comfortable with.

We are discussing mod conduct, and their ability to police the forum. Raefil set low standards early on this term, and showed partiality....which set the tone and now make it hard to keep order.
One line personal abuse was once stamped on...he and you set new lows.
Call me slippery all you like.
Whether you believe it or not I gave you an honest answer.
Not just referring to this instance, but there have been many words between pretty much all the elected mods and not just quiet ones, it hasn't been a bed of roses but it certainly hasn't been a group covering each others backs either despite some accusing it of that. Far from it

As you are opinionated when it comes to the way the forum is moderated...and have taken issue to an ex-mods (me) views and consider them a distraction, may I suggest that one day you consider stopping making excuses and actually PAY to be a voting patron?

I can see that, Jakehake, even from the outside...so agree with your post.
It is a shame that you haven`t worked better together. It really does need a good team ethic for the Admin to work well.
Still...maybe sometimes the mix of individuals just isn`t right.
Respect as always to those who have put the work in...and I include Raefil, who I have criticised on this thread, 100 %. He has done more than most.

With regards to being a patron I always paid my way until my PayPal account get blocked. An account I still can't figure out how to fix.
You of course already know this as you've assisted me in finding other ways to pay in the past.
I once went to the length of sending a cheque to one of the administration from my base in the uae just to pay my patronage.
I will happily do the same again and have offered to do so. I offer to do so again now and as I'm off work today I will be on my computer later doing some housekeeping and will look at the PayPal issue again.

This sort of nonsense just makes you look a complete prat. Everyone knows that you've had Machiavellian intentions regarding your favourite Mods but this triumphalism is somewhat unseemly IMHO. People have defended you but this just makes it look as if you have engineered everything to your ends ( which I believe was always your intention). It isn't big and it isn't clever but, it is high quality WUMing and manipulation. I'm sure you're very proud of yourself.

Hopefully when people post in future about "the forum not being as good as it used to be" and "we've lost some good posters" they may keep your post and points at the forefront of their mind (though in wider contexts that just a single user)

People argue and disagree but sadly some people don't now where to draw the line.
But hopefully after years of abuse thrown my way, and some downright bullying, maybe we'll soon have a team of Mods who won't tolerate this behaviour instead of allowing it and justifying it because I happen to refer to Manchester United as Manchester.
I'm sorry to say, but I don't care what you think.
We do need to chill. Chilling isn't helped by inflammatory and triumphalist posting which was what I was referencing in my post.

Bear in mind that a stronger and more unified set of Moderators might well have given you a great deal less leeway. Be careful what you wish for....😉
