Team for Monday

I suspect both of them will have trained seperately with Basil to assess their fitness. Leon was actually in the squad for Millwall so I think he'll play. I bloody hope so anyway because if it's Morgan and Wright then we are up slack alley.

The depressing thing is when you read through he names is how utterly shit this squad is as a whole. Parry? Ashbee? Johnson? Who cares? We need to clear out at least a dozen of these shirkers and fire off the Billy Big Times who don't want to be here; lonergan, ledger - it's a chance for a massive pruning exercise this Summer and the start of a new era...

Did we not have a massive pruning exercise last Summer and the start of a new era?

Look where that took us to.

I'm no great fan of Wayne Brown but is he actually still at the club? If so, given our total lack of available defenders, we'd be better off playing him in central defence alongside Morgan. Billy Jones needs to he at right-back as there's no point weakening both our full back positions. Especially when Craig Bellamy will be attacking down the left!

Take your pick of unpalatable options for left-back, I'd just go with a youth team player who actually does play in that position.

Ellington to replace Chris Brown up top and ideally Paul Coutts to replace Darren Carter though Barry Nicholson or Darel Russell would be fine too. Virtually anyone would do instead of Johnson! But someone who is actually right-sided would be best. Paul Parry could be up for it against his former club and even Danny Mayor would be better than EJ.

Wayne Brown was watching the youth team on Saturday, so he must still have some connection

Whatever we do we have to abandon this false policy of top-loading the team with strikers and put out sides with at least three midfielders capable of winning the ball. Otherwise you just get overrun in the centre of the park and then it is only a matter of time before your defence cracks.

Assuming Cort, St Ledger, Khumalo and Coutts unavailable, but that this lad Hart is a left-sided defender:

Turner

Jones, Bailey Wright, Morgan, Hart

Nicholson, Ashbee, Russell, Treacy

Hume, Ellington

An alternative might, as I've suggested before, be to put Russell and left back and then use either Carter or Barton in the centre.

Barton?......we need someone who will put a shift in....tackle when its needed....not just jog around the middle trying to look fancy

I like the look of your suggested team ernest, well balanced with no "Square pegs in round holes". Only change I would consider is if either St Ledger or Court are fit I would player either one of these instead of young BaileyWright.

SSN saying St Ledger and Cort are available so if that's the case I'd go,

Turner

Jones
St Ledger
Cort
Parry

Nicholson
Ashbee
Russell
Treacy

Hume
Ellington
