Walton
Offiah, Storey, Gibson
Pol, Whiteman, McCann, Small
Devine, Dobbin
Jebbison
Cornell, Lindsay, Lewis, Thompson, Mads, Smith, Nelson, Carroll, Gryba
Assuming Potts is injured and nobody else is fit to return.
Gryba went off injured yesterday, more likely to see Kamara on the bench after his two thunderbastards.
You'd think that someone who was red carded (Osmajic) would score the lowest rating in the BBC report page of the game. But, no, that honour goes to Smith - no more needs to be said! The starting formation for Saturday has to show that PH has learned the lessons from last night. I would say they are to play defenders in positions that suit them, get some more creativity and invention into the team and don't start the utterly ponderous Smith upfront.
As such and assuming that there are no signings and that Iversen, Hughes and Vukcevic are still absent then the best I can suggest is:
Walton,
Offiah, Storey, Gibson
Valentin, McCann, Thompson, Small
Devine, Dobbin
Jebbison
If Hughes is fit then his grit and character should return on the left of the defence and then there is a choice to be made between Storey and Gibson in the centre. Obviously Vukcevic is a longer term absentee but is that actually the case with Iversen otherwise I suppose a surprise package might be the sudden return of Brady though that is a longshot. But PH has to make the big decision to drop Whiteman who is simply not justifying his continued selection and role as captain. That doesn't mean that a McCann-Thomson partnership is ideal - it isn't because it still lacks any real invention which only the return of Armstrong and/or (ideally 'and') can provide but it is the best we can manage at the moment. The only alternative to the front three I have suggested would be to hold Dobbin back and start Frokjaer who can provide some invention when he is so inclined - how many times do I have to say it there is no justification in starting Smith when any reasonable alternative is available. But just maybe we will have somebody new to add to the mix. Whatever we pick ourselves up and continue. There would be nothing more in keeping with the character of this club that after the utter dross of the last three matches we go out and get something on Saturday.
Club CaptainWhiteman has played pretty much every available minute for a team in the playoffs and is the 5th highest rated midfielder statistically and you don’t think he’s done enough to justify his continued starting
Definition of an agenda
Surely it’s better to play them on a quality pitch where they might actually be able to play their football and use our workmanlike players at home on our dodgy pitch? Not bothered who he plays away @ Middlesbrough,
Anything from that is a bonus.
As much as i like PH a couple of times when playing a biggish Team away he has NOT played his strongest Team in the Home game just before!
I would have rather gone all out for Hull and then play the Smiths, Thompsons etc away.
I.e you play Devine, Dobbin & Jebbison from the start @ Home to pick up a win & then hope to pick up a point away @ the likes of Boro!
And now an assistBrowne just levelled for them
Possibly but despite its downfall. WE should know our own pitch and its foibles better than the opposition.Surely it’s better to play them on a quality pitch where they might actually be able to play their football and use our workmanlike players at home on our dodgy pitch?
The issue is we keep using them then playing the same on the floor style that doesn’t suit them instead of going route 1
Saying that Whiteman has been player of the season has to be a criminal offence. Hang your head in shame for that one.Thompson over Whiteman who’s been arguably player of the season 😂😂😂
Drop the agenda for once Ernest
