Really hope we do sign someone, expect we'll be running back the same lineup as against Bristol City if not. Maybe Holmes in for Ledson if we're lucky, as a treat.

Surely can’t be putting Whatmough at LCB after the debacle in the first half last night. If we don’t sign anyone before Saturday this would be my team.

I’d just swap the positions of Lindsay and Whatmough. If we don’t sign anyone before Saturday this would be my team.

If Cannon is available I’d have him alongside Keane with Holmes dropping to the bench.

That was my first thought Henry but I thought Lindsay did really well in the middle against Bristols…..I wouldn’t be against the swap though because that’s were I’d really like to see Whatmough.I’d just swap the positions of Lindsay and Whatmough.

Whatmough looked better on the right but I think he just improved as the game progressed….I think he will be a very good signing.Surely can’t be putting Whatmough at LCB after the debacle in the first half last night.

Yeah no chance we should be putting Best and Whatmough on the left side against Patrick Roberts, he'll have a field day.
Hughes is the most comfortable with people running at him, so should be him and Best on the left hand side.
Whatmough in for Storey, Holmes in for Ledson. Keep everything else the same

If cannon signs in time, would you start him or on the subs bench. due to signing so close to the game and due to him recovering from a hamstring injury I would start him on the bench.Woodman

The back three at Bristol City were all very solid, while Whatmough gave a goal away on his debut.
He's a decent threat to keep pressure on the main three, but no way would I drop Storey for him at this stage.

He gave a goal away directly, and was also shit for the first goal.
No idea why people are thinking he deserves to immediately walk into the team.
How can you ask a question " Would you start him or on the subs bench" and then say I would START him on the bench? If cannon signs in time, would you start him or on the subs bench. due to signing so close to the game and due to him recovering from a hamstring injury I would start him on the bench.

After last night any thought of playing Whatmough on the left of the defence is little short of perverse - the only available player we have who can play there is Hughes, who in addition to being left-footed can both make a decent tackle and play long accurate passes out of defence. Nor should Hughes ever now be played at left wing-back - he no longer has the necessary speed and he lacks the ability to play the sort of dipping, swerving crosses the position requires. Other than that there certainly is a case for starting Holmes, who played well last night. Moving Frokjaer forward is one option to enable that - the other would be to play Holmes as left wing-back which would allow Keane to be partnered either with Woodburn as last night or someone else.....

I think folk are going over the top about Whatmoughs first half display on the left and need to take a step back….especially your ‘perverse’ observation ernest. I’m guessing your observations are based on the the highlights, commentary and some comments on here? After last night any thought of playing Whatmough on the left of the defence is little short of perverse - the only available player we have who can play there is Hughes, who in addition to being left-footed can both make a decent tackle and play long accurate passes out of defence.
