Very interesting

With all those on the ‘books’ It just shows those asking Uncle Trevor to 'fork out' millions for players in January, are living in the same world as some on the Political thread, who want Labour to chose a Corbyn type 'look alike' for the next Labour leader, and expect a different result at the next GE
No Chance

So if I can count right (and I’ve started on the San Miguel) we have x37 players, with six out on loan. (Josh Earl is in the DF list and in the loaned out list). Some of the 31 that are with us are injured but even taking this in to account that’s a lot of players out on the training pitch every day. Mental note to count them next time I do the Guild Wheel.
However, is it a lot of players for a Championship squad?

Gazzaholly - is there any comparative data on squad size for the other Championship squads that you can lay your hands on?

According to Soccerway.com we have the largest squad of the top eight team.

WBA 26
Fulham 28
Leeds 29
Wendies 28
Brentford 29
Bristol City 28
Swansea 31
Us 32 (includes Green)

Figures do not include players out on loan.

Not sure if this site is 100% accurate.

I wonder what the prevailing mood will be on here come end of play on 31st Jan.

Past experienceis certainly telling me to keep my expectations low to be honest.

But there is still that part of me that thinks the powers that be will see what an opportunity there is just sitting there to be taken and will think ‘fuck it, let's just give it a push and see what happens’.

If we bring in a Striker and an experienced LW that will be ok. Add to that a LB and it will be a great window. Anything additional to that would be superb.

As long as we keep hold of our main players obvs.

I think it will depend if selling/loaning clubs (and players have outrageous demands). Trev will not pay exorbitant amounts for ok players. Yes I get the argument about paying the going rate but I doubt any North End fan would agree with paying 8m+ for Hugill. Can you get a decent striker for 3 or 4m? Not sure one that we would want. I'd rather Trevor pushed the boat out on a decent loanee. Pay his 30k/40k a week wages till the end of the season as long as there's no crazy loan fee.

The comparison of raw numbers is probably misleading - I suspect, for example, that the WBA tally is almost entirely experienced players on high wages. Leave out the players who are on loan and we have a squad of 32 three of whom are raw youngsters. Five of the other senior players of our own have contracts that run out at the end of this season so we could well cut things back at the end of this season. As it is come January you would hope that we could agree with Aston Villa to terminate Green's loan - it seems to be a waste of everybody's time not least his - and maybe see if we could find another home for Crowe. Loans for the three youngsters would also be useful, as might one for Ledson who I am not writing off but he needs a run of games somewhere.

Anybody know how much a plum away draw in FA Cup 4th round could yield us, if we beat Norwich. For example Man Utd or a Spurs away. The % of gate receipts and/or tv money........may part fund something and potentially influence some activity, or is it diddly squat these days in comparison to wages/ transfer fees?

Not writing Ledson off just yet ernest

But it does seem strange how hard we pursued him and the little game time he has had since he came here.
I hope the same doesn’t apply to Bayliss
Not sure how much either would progress if they went out on loan to a lesser League team
Jus my opinion of course

Think they changed the way the split works so it's not as much as you might think (unless I'm wrong)

Could be a busy summer in 2021!

Walton, thanks for providing the article. Interesting reading, my take on it is the TV money is crucial. At best we’d probably net out at a couple of hundred grand if we got say Man Utd away and it was on tv including share of gate receipts. Massive for a non league club but not really significant for our transfer kitty or loan wage/fee.
Cheers pal.

I see he's retweeted 2 PNE-related posts because they mention him.

Is that it?
Replies to the odd one too. Surprising isn’t it, former player interacting with the club that made him

Must be coming back then
