Unsworths comments Re Coutts

Unsworths comments Re Coutts

maybe PB was too close to some players and would play them even if it wasn't the best shape for the team

I spoke to Phil at event recently and asked him why he wasnt playing Coutts in CM, his answer was 'its all about getting the balance right'..

If Phil Brown could step away from the beauty parlour for a minute, and consider his team selections from the point of view of each player, he would consider how he would have felt if he was selected at left back throughout his career, how he would have felt?
Clearly he lacks empathy which, in his case, mad matters very complicated for him and his players.
Mayor on the left wing just looked unhinged both in attack and defence. In essence, with the touch line behind him, his whole career has been, I guess, receiving the ball from the left, and running to the right - towards the by line.
I also feel that Proctor should now be on 15 goals already, with the right management. I am still backing him for a couple of hat tricks this season, if he is fit. With Mayor, Hume and Coutts now in the right positions, Proctor can do less providing and more scoring.

I was in agreement so much with this post and then I nearly wet myself laughing!!!! The bit Highlighted about Proctor is frightening, The lad has potential, but he is no goal machine, A few goals against non league pre season had us all thinking we had a new Alan Shearer on our hands, The best possible outcome for Proctor this season would be cameo appearance or possibly a loan move to good league 2 club, he is not ready to dislodge Hume and Mellor, Or Hume and A N Other.

One small note of concern here.
If Unsworth and Alexander are not appointed in an official capacity immediately or, say, after a six match run, how would those two guys see their positions at the club?
Unsworth has had a sniff at management, and has already claimed a 'big' scalp. Alexander will already be considering the merits of a senior coaching role, perhaps nestling under the wing of Unsworth for the time being. They seem to be friends which means loyalty and respect (I'm thinking Clough and Taylor here).
For this reason, I don't see any other course of action for the club other than appointing this pair for the remainder of the season. If they succeed, it is win win for the fans. If they fail, then we will have seen them fail and perhaps prove they aren't ready. If a new boss comes in, the pair leave and set up shop somewhere down the road.
In my crystal ball, I see the Unsworth and Alexander partnership managing someone like Derby County in the near future. Once again, with PNE fans watching on in despair and disappointment.

And if that was an epic fail ending in relegation to Div2!! not that i'm saying i think it would but i'm sure that would be as harmful to their future careers as it would be a disaster for the club, it's a huge responsibility for an experienced manager never mind a couple of rookies.

PP, are you suggesting we hire them on the basis of one match, one in which, while the lads worked their asses off, battled for grim death to hold on to a result, hardly the stuff to do backflips over.

In their defence they had limited amount of time to get the players prepared for that game .

All they could ask for is what they got , players giving everything for the cause .
As I've said before thats 50% of the battle .
I would hope after a few more games in charge and getting their ideas across we would start to see a improvement on the pitch.

Previous rookies at Preston:
Gary Peters - Promotion
David Moyes - Promotion
Billy Davies - Play offs for top flight.

What were you saying about no experience?

Playing third in the league, unbeaten at home, having won 7 on the trot MK Dons.
North End, to be fair, should have been 3 up by half time, so dominant were they.
Wake up. From start to finish of that match North End looked completely transformed in both intent and formation.

Jeez Billy had 3 years in the SPL and was manager at Motherwell for more games than he was here, he wasn't really a rookie when he took over. The amount of people who have forgotten Davies' past is frightening.

I'm with you also. You see many other young inexperienced managers being given the chance and doing very well in the lower divisions, so why not Unsworth or Grezz, it just may turn out that they have far more to offer than their adversaries at an early stage in their managerial careers. I thought Unsworth did well during his brief tenure in commandand & was unlucky away at palace last year after Ferguson's dismissal (should've had a pen!). U&G would also undoubtedly have the club at heart, always put the club first and have the players & fans backing. From what I have seen recently I don't think it would be too difficult to improve on some ''bigger'' names' somewhat bizarre attempts. We need to build solidly for the future even if it takes a year or two of consolidation and team-building, this would allow them to develop their skills and confidence commensurate with the teams. However I do believe the play-offs are easily more than a good possibility.
With the situation we are in the last thing I would want is a short-term fix. IF BD came in and was offered a job elsehwere, would he take it???? Where would U&G go??? Best to make best use of in-house abilities in my view.

For me a no-brainer

For me
