Well thats me. (fallen Fraud Victim)

Thanks Joan. He's going from a village in Essex to almost the middle of Newcastle. God help him.😀

CH to Newcastle will be quite the culture shock. On the other hand, Newcastle is a great place, albeit a fucking awful drive up (we go up to see my step daughter who live in Gosforth and it has taken well over 6 hours on occasions)

I’ve had a text message today saying add my number mum. Like one of my kids were contacting me with a new number. No name was in the message so didn’t know if it was my son or daughter. Checked with them both and neither had sent me that message. Daughter advised it’s one of them texts that asks for money.
I had that text 5 or 6 weeks ago.

Called / Texted my mum on her real number and it wasn't her sending the message, like you say, fraudulent scumbags.

My rule of thumb - if I am not expecting a phone call and I don't recognise the number, then I don't answer 99% of the time. The 1% I do answer, I usually hang up within seconds, the only words they get out of myself are "No, sorry, not interested".

Youre a lot politer than me 🙂

My eldest is due to start Uni this weekend. He's been stressing about his finance quite a bit and logging on to the student finance website quite a lot. He got a call from an anonymous number the other day who knew most of his details and ended up giving them his password and security question. He knew immediately he'd cocked up and tried to log back in but couldn't.
It's all okay now, hopefully, but he's now got all this stress on top of what it is stressful time anyway.
These people are cunts.

We all need a degree in cybersecurity

Spot on Jack, any correspondence by phone I don't recognise I answer and within one sentence and say I am driving or under a sink mending a leak and bye!
Even done the Blackadder trick of scrunching the paper and blaming to on a bad line!

I don’t pretend at all, I just hang up. The one that really winds me up is them asking “how are you today” like I think they give a stuff, the phone is off before they get to the end of the question or, I say “what do you want” mid sentence to let them know I don’t suffer their waffle easily.

I like to play games with them and lead them on. Winds them up when they finally realise. Had one call me back a couple of times calling me all names under the sun, haha. It can be fun.

That's what I do. One of 'em, a foreign sounding fella, ended up saying to me, 'and you sir, can fuck off'. Charming.

I did that once.

Was for Life Insurance.

I told him twice over the course of a minute or two that I'd died last week but I wasn't sure whether to proceed with Insurance along with some other obvious piss taking waffle before he twigged and hung up on me. 😂

I actually resent these fuckers ringing me. Another I used to do was, put my son on, when he was about 4 or 5. He loved it, they didn't.
On scams, I fell for one years ago when I was young and foolish/naive. A bloke came round touting for building work (I know). It just so happened there had been a storm, and some of my ridge tiles had come off. We fixed a price, and his 2 mates came round to complete the work. Whilst up there they discovered a 'problem', a hole in the ridge I was told. 'Bullshit' I thought and got rid of 'em after overpaying for the work they had done.
I then climbed up to the loft, thinking there would be no damage, but the bastard had put a hole in, probably with a chisel or summat. I was pretty upset to be honest and ended up getting a reputable builder to do the job properly.
Lesson learnt and probably common knowledge but, DON’T EMPLOY BUILDERS OR TRADESMEN THAT JUST TURN UP AT YOUR DOOR.

He went to a night club in Chelmsford once though.😀
Should be a good shock. His accommodation is almost in the centre and is living with 3 girls.

The A1 is horrible but we have a base camp in North Yorks at his mum’s parents so did it fri to sun. Was ok.

Was at Durham Uni a few weeks ago with one of mine, that journey was bad enough.

Good luck to your lad fella.

Does it have to be a Credit Card or does the same apply for a Visa Debit card ??

Credit Card only for Section 75 as the "Credit" brings in the other vested parties. There is other stuff for Debit Cards but they don't have the same protections and isn't as useful as the money is "yours"
