What is going on at the top?

What is going on at the top?

I'm only voicing my concerns, I doubt there is anyone who wants us to be successful more than I do, my first game was home to the scum in the 69/70 season when the sent us down, and it's been my lifelong ambition to see us in the top flight, I've never said Derek got everything right, I just hope that people on heres new blind acceptance doesn't come back to bite us all on the arse.

I'm not doubting for one minute that you want to see us be successful, however I just find it highly hypercritical that when Derek was chairman, everything was fine and rosy, and he deserved all the credit for keeping us afloat.

Now it would appear that the club was being run into the ground, suddenly Derek had nothing to do with it, and was nothing more than Hemmings puppet?

I have not got blind acceptance of the new regime, and when questions need to be asked, they will be. However at present we are fortunate that we are still solvent, and I'm fully supportive of the new chairman and Mr Hemmings, until they give me reason to doubt them.

Everyone knew that massive changes would be made to the playing squad, and the the wage bill would need to be brought under control. Like I have said previously, over the past few years, especially away from home we have seen little pride, and little passion from the players of Preston North End, we have seen crap PR, we have seen attendance drop, and the supporters have been seen to be a bit of a hindrance.

I have full confidence that this attitude is changing, and feel that it is about time that all Nobbers give the owner, chairman, manager and most importantly the new players their full support, in what is a massive season for PNE.

If the latest news on Andy Lonergan is correct and I suspect it is then I think the LEP/fans' groups etc have a duty to ask serious questions of the new chairman - basically, why are the club selling off their best assets? It is at the least a very risky strategy and the supporters deserve to be told why it's happening.

What is happening is that we haven't got a pot to piss in and owe the owner and the bank £20million+. So we are selling what we can sell to get some money back in and reduce costs.

I still can't understand how the reality of the situation STILL hasn't hit home with people. This isn't about football - its about staying afloat and securing the club's future.

To be fair Jaymo, it is not just boggers that is saying the same spiel, it is all Derek's cronies. It is almost like Derek is using them as his PR agents, but surely he would never ask his mates to come on the forum and justify his actions eh 😉

Oh he would and did, rest assured he did😡

I can see both points of view here. Like everybody else I had hoped that Trevor would come in, find a way to offload the talentless workshy rabble we accumulated under Irvine (specifically Chaplow, Carter, Shumulikoski, Collins and Elliott) and give us a decent transfer kitty to have a proper tilt at promotion.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending whether your glass is half-full or half-empty) it seems that he is absolutely dead set on returning the club to a financially viable state and he has opted to do that by selling our best players.

Now the fact is that without Trevor Hemmings we wouldn't have a club and probably wouldn't have had one for some time. He's pumped millions into North End. But I have to say that whilst I agree with the need to run the club like a business again, selling our very best assets is not a senisble way forward.

Wallace I can deal with, although that's still one quality player less than we had last term. But if we sell Lonergan as well (and are touting St Ledger as some have inidcated) then we are setting ourselves up for a dismal season next year. I know Lonergan has his faults but he's a fine 'keeper at this level and people will see that all the more clearly if Henderson is between the sticks next term. As for the much vaunted youth players coming through, I believe one or two of them will be good players in the future. But if anyone seirously expects Mayor, Proctor or Barton to do anything more than hold their own at this level next season they are deluding themselves.

We are some way short of having a competitive Championship squad at the moment. Currently I can't see where the goals are coming from and our team is slow with a capital 'S'. I hope there is a bigger jigsaw being built than the one I see before me at the moment.

And you base this on what reasons?

Of course I didn't miss it but the answer surely isn't selling off your best players in a bid to get into a relegation scrap at the first opportunity. This would be all well and good if the players coming in were going to be adequate replacements but that ain't been the case so far.

Who expected the best players in the team to be shipped out as well as the deadwood? Even if some did the people making these decisions should still be held to account and explain the strategy.

You will just have to wait and see who comes in and what squad of players we have at the start of the season...The only best players are Wallace St Ledge and Lonegan...And only one of them as gone so far..the rest is a well overdue clearout....and the ones in are adequate replacements in their respective positions...Like I said you will have to wait and see...

spot on mate!

It's my opinion based upon a perception gleaned primarily from reserve team games that he can't kick or control the ball very well, is nervous when dealing with passbacks, is susceptible to injury, hasn't played a full season at Championship level since, well, ever (?!) and neither Irvine nor Ferguson have seen fit to drop Lonergan for him even when Lonergan's form has been poor. Do you have reason to believe we should be confident about the prospect of kicking off the season with Henderson as our number one goalkeeper?
