He’s crap.

That being said, watching all of our midfielders warm up is generally quite concerning. None of them seem to be able to control a football. I’ve never known a squad of footballers so inept when it comes to the basics.

I do think Hecky needs to move the deck chairs around a little bit, especially now we haven’t strengthened in key areas.

Whiteman is one we need to change, sadly he was the one who got the new contract and the other one is sat top of the league

Sorry I gave it the laughing emoji but I've had mucho vino and it's so depressing how true this is 😂

They both got the new contract. The other one just wasn’t thick enough to sign it

Worst game I’ve seen him have for North End today; shirked responsibility on the ball, passed backwards/sideways far too often and showed zero leadership.

As soon as Freddie handed them the first goal, we absolutely crumbled like the very worst of the Lowe era days.

Whiteman had an absolute shocker.

He wasn’t alone in that, but as captain of a team with such a weak and fragile mentality, questions are inevitably going to be asked.

He needs to stop weaving the white flag and start acting like a leader.

Looking at the season ahead, we’re going to need a hell of a lot more backbone than he's shown today. 😤
Makes you miss the likes of Gregan, McKenna, O'Neil, Grezza, Callum Davidson, Tom Clarke, Huntington, etc. Those players wouldn't hide and would keep battling. We miss that in this squad.

What did he think their player was doing in the 6 yard box for their third goal? He was either aware of him and chose not to do anything or was totally oblivious to what was going on. The pass before the incident that led to Phillips getting injured epitomised what he’s prone to do.

He’s been poor for some time and an ok game last Saturday doesn’t change anything,

Not good enough to be captain. Terrible from him he never bollocks anyone, not vocal enough, today he was appalling but so was woodman, hughes, lindsay and storey but disappointingly the new manager didn't sort it out

I commented on Whiteman a couple of weeks ago on here.

He is crap. He offers absolutely nothing other than the odd well timed challenge like last week against Luton.

He gives us literally nothing going forward. His pass completion stats are probably good because all he ever seems to do is pass it out to the wing backs, receive it back, pass back to the centre backs or Woodman and then repeat until the crowd get annoyed and its sent over his head.

Now there is an argument that he's not had anything to pass it to at times but I can't remember the last time he ever attempted to 'break the lines' going forward.

Nothing against him and maybe there is a player in there but for me since he came he has flattered to deceive.

2 examples yesterday that pretty much sum up what many are saying on this thread.

Ball goes wide to Hayden. He is being closed down by 2 Oxford players. If Whiteman runs 10 yards further up the pitch he can receive an easy square pass. He doesn’t and possession is lost.

Second half we are 1 or 2 goals behind and Whiteman receives the ball in the middle of our own half with no Oxford player within 15 yards. He plays it back to Storey ( arguably the worst footballer in the whole team). What is Storey meant to do with it?

If you re the captain and an experienced pro footballer you have to take responsibility to get your team back in the game. Inspire others, set an example etc.

Whiteman just passes the balll sideways/backwards to improve his stats. It’s lazy or cowardly.
He signed the contract, took the armband now step up.

I don't think he is crap but he needs coaching to stop being so safe and told he needs to get us up the pitch. Yesterday we were in at ascendancy until he took control and slowed/ killed the game for 3 or 4 minutes, from that they came back into the game and literally minutes later scored. Up to that point they'd struggled to deal with us.

Also our set pieces are much better when he is not on them.

Just a bang average midfielder. Brannagan for Oxford looked miles better.

Brannigan was class throughout; had a great game.

Noticed when we scored he was going round geeing up their players.

Very verbal with the ref all game and a right shithouse too.

Streets ahead of Whiteman in every sense.

Just glad he never signed for the Lashers a few years back.

Oh for a Gregan.
What a captain.

Whiteman is a solid mid table Championship midfielder, simple as that.

I don’t get the hate personally. We’ve players starting or around the first team who aren’t of the same standard in their respective positions.

I think the focus should be on upgrading them.
