Whiteman is a solid mid table Championship midfielder, simple as that.

I don’t get the hate personally. We’ve players starting or around the first team who aren’t of the same standard in their respective positions.

I think the focus should be on upgrading them.
He was a solid league one player. He’s been poor in the championship, with very few exceptions. It’s only having the likes of Ledson for competition that keeps him in the team.

Gets the ball and either:-

(1) passes to opposition

(2) passes backwards to team mates and points forward

That’s basically it

I sometimes think I must be missing something about him because to me, he's all too often anonymous. I forget he's even on the pitch - something you could never say about the likes of McKenna or Pearson. He just doesn't stamp his authority on a game.

Don’t get me wrong, Whiteman played pretty poorly yesterday in terms of passing forward, movement around the pitch etc but I think most of the first team have had that attacking prowess removed from them by Lowe and his awful 3-5-2 formation when it was always parking the bus/blaming others when we lost.

just using Sunderland as an example and it’s baffling how much easier they make it regarding attacking, pushing players up the pitch quickly and being able to score goals when they Have the chance.

We did play on the front foot/attacking football in the first half against Oxford yesterday but then seemed to enjoy the half time break too much and return to our former selves and be too afraid.

Your miles off thinking Whiteman is league one standard.

Gives me similar vibes this to Alan Browne, bet Sunderland fans can’t believe they got him on a free.

At least with Browne it was clear what he was good/not good at. Plus we didn’t let him go because he wasn’t good enough.

Whiteman has no physical presence, he’s slow, only ever passes back to the defence or to the opposition, and offers nothing going forward. Please tell me what he offers?

Can’t be assed mate 😂

We are miles apart and won’t agree 👍

In my opinion, Whiteman is capable of being Championship standard; I just think he's pretty unspectacular. He's not the root of all our problems, I just think he's not offering enough considering his level of responsibility and his status within the squad, and ultimately I think he's relatively easy to replace

Feel exactly the same about him

They can't. A quick type of 'Alan Browne' into Twitter and its hard to find one tweet which isn't waxing lyrical about him.

Weird really as Whiteman is probably a better 'technical' player than Browne but, as I've said previously, he lack so many of the physical attributes needed. He runs as if he's in treacle and although no expert and stats may prove me wrong but I don't think he covers that much on an area either.

Definitely a casualty of Loweball. 2 years of being asked solely to pick the ball up from the cloggers at the back, with absolutely no width to hit and static movement up front.

He's regressed significantly in my opinion. Always felt he would have been an excellent player in a 4-2-3-1 alongside McCann.

Set pieces are generally awful too

One decision I would make if I was PH, give the armband to Thordarson, I know he’s only just joined but he does give his all.

That would literally ruin the squads morale in a matter of weeks. Let’s hope he doesn’t do that 🫣

Thordarson has offered very little (along with the rest of the side) since Sheffield United. I struggle to see what people see in him. I’ve seen comments about him being this massive upgrade on Browne.

Don’t want to compare the two as it’s still very early on but he was bypassed yesterday and has offered very little in the last few weeks

If we’re giving the armband to people who give their all then Ryan Ledson is a shoe in.
