Whiteman is a solid mid table Championship midfielder, simple as that.
I don’t get the hate personally. We’ve players starting or around the first team who aren’t of the same standard in their respective positions.
I think the focus should be on upgrading them.
I think that's the point of my post.
What does he contribute?
You can say he's championship standard, and I'll respect your opinion.
But what does he bring in terms of qualities?

Ball retention
Passing Accuracy
Can beat a press (many of our midfield can’t)
Good defensive cover.

I commented on Whiteman a couple of weeks ago on here.
He is crap. He offers absolutely nothing other than the odd well timed challenge like last week against Luton.
He gives us literally nothing going forward. His pass completion stats are probably good because all he ever seems to do is pass it out to the wing backs, receive it back, pass back to the centre backs or Woodman and then repeat until the crowd get annoyed and its sent over his head.
Now there is an argument that he's not had anything to pass it to at times but I can't remember the last time he ever attempted to 'break the lines' going forward.
Nothing against him and maybe there is a player in there but for me since he came he has flattered to deceive.
All of that for me 👍

Personally I'm would use the Lindsay suspension as an opportunity to adapt our formations and tactics. I would like to see Whiteman used as a flexi sweeper, able to drop in or step out:-
Woodman
Storey. Whatmough
Kayden. Whiteman. Best
Thordarson McCann. Frokjaer
Osmajic. Riis
With this set up you have flexibility to drop Whiteman in to make a 3-5-2, or drop the wingbacks in to make a 4-1-3-2.
Of course we need to see the outcome of the international break and how we integrate Okkels and Bowler.
Either way, I don't think Whiteman is a problem for us, possibly he's been a victim of our general play under Lowe. I hope he doesn't become the new scapegoat.

I don’t think he’s a CDM. Wasn’t when we signed him from Doncaster. Used to score a few goals from midfield. But had to play there once Pearson left.
McCann, Whiteman with Thordarson playing 10 would make a good midfield to control teams and press.

For me Whiteman has the same problem as someone like Storey. They’ve been here for several years and I honestly couldn’t say what I think they excel at.
They aren’t bad players by any stretch, and I don’t think they’ve gone backwards in their time here unlike others, but I just haven’t seen anything to say there’s anything special about them or make me warm to them.

watching Whiteman reminds me of playing subbuteo ... pay a simple sideways or backwards pass so you retain possession. Hope the defending team "flicks" to intercept and leaves an open space to play through.

Surely Potts is our most reliable performer and fittest player who constantly recovers cock ups? Potts is not our most gifted player, but I dont see how you can rate Whiteman above him in these aspects. Now if Alan Browne were still here this wouldnt even be a debate.
Personally, I think as far as the fans are concerned Potts is really undervalued! In a way he has become a victim of his own versatility, he has been played all over the place, always adapted well, never let us down, always puts in a shift, a proper athlete, who gives it a real go! Yet despite all that, he seems to also be,for some fans, the go to whipping boy, the one they are first to turn on, really puzzles me??Surely Potts is our most reliable performer and fittest player who constantly recovers cock ups? I think fans want footballers who do more than just run a lot, especially in key attacking positions.Personally, I think as far as the fans are concerned Potts is really undervalued! But Potts has "never let us down" at passing the ball back to Storey or across to Whiteman, and he occasionally plays a cross that lands somewhere near a colleague, and very very occasionally scores a goal, which is always enough to earn him a 2-year extension.

I wouldn't say he is the whipping boy he's more a jack of all trades master of none.
It's all well and good say he never lets us down and always puts a shift in but that doesn't always equate to tangibles that win football matches in some ways what you have described is the bare minimum expected of a professional footballer. It's like playing Stewart week in week out because he puts a shift in and never lets us down but if he doesn't score all that "effort" is useless.
With Whiteman I just think he is a product of the mediocrity around him he's been trying to play it out wide to either isolated wingbacks or Brady/Potts for the last 3 years and when that happens the only option taken up is it's given back to him and then rinse and repeat. Same could be said when he has played with Ledson or McCann next to him.
Whiteman could and should shine under Heckingbottom.
I was just talking about what the player brings and that his versatility brings something to the group!
Don't get me started on the egocentric, useless dick head, who is so deluded he thinks he can run a pro football club, he couldn't run a fekin bath!!!!
I feel you hit one of my triggers!!😇

I think Potts epitomises the kind of squad we've built over the last decade. A steady, hard working, versatile but ultimately a fairly limited skillset.Personally, I think as far as the fans are concerned Potts is really undervalued! He's now in his seventh season at the club but has only 7 assists in all that time. Despite nearing 200 league apps & putting in 365 crosses.
He's signed up til 2026 with the dreaded "at least" clause, so that might well become a deal til 2027. He would be 33 years old by then.
I'm not convinced that would be in the best interests of the club. But, our contract extensions are often more about rewarding loyalty.
It'd be nice to think KKH will offer him competition on the right flank, but it seems he'll be needed to play out of position on the left.

The fact that he stands out for that, tells you all you need to know!I wouldn't say he is the whipping boy he's more a jack of all trades master of none.
