According to football manager, which is more than likely inaccurate, he is on 1,500 p/w and his contract began on 2.7.2004, which probably is the case. By my (rough) calculations hes earnt 169500 off us so far....😱

Which equates to 8475 adult tickets (advance price, 7705 matchday price) on the AKTE!!! Thanks Craig. Thanks a lot.

Cheers for the Trouble, Paddy=Legend.

Re: worst player?

Actually ..... I'm changing my mind .......

Yes ... Mark Sale . deffo the worst ever.

I actually got into an arguement over some lanky pratt of a North Ender years ago on the terraces ... away at Scarborough I think ..... cos he thought Mark Sale was what we needed up front !!! Tosser even wrote into the LEP and called me a ..... wait for it ..... `a buffoon` 😱

Hibbert and Anyinsah have both shown goalscoring form in the reserves, and ability on loan (Smith was a failure at Motherwell too). They're also a good 5 years younger than Smith. I can't be sure, but as PA=L said, Football Manager (which is usually fairly accurate) has Smith on rather a high wage- presumaby because Brown thought he was going to be our star striker (He had the number 9 shirt IIRC)

Hibbert and Anyinsah were both signed as prospects rather than current players, and as such, they're undoubtedly earning alot less than Smith.

Hibbert has scored once on loan at Rotherham after playing four games and coming on twice in the league.

He has started one game and appeared from the bench twelve times for PNE.

Smith started four times for Motherwell and came off the bench three times without scoring

Smith has started three league games for Preston and made eleven sub appearances. He's also started two league cup games.

Hibbert cost £5,000 less in transfers. I don't know what wages they're on. Neither has scored for Preston. Hibbert hasn't been injured much since he got here whereas Smith has. Hibbert has never been played out of position.

So as far as their records go, we have two players with a handful of starts and around a dozen sub appearances each. They've both gone on loan. One has international recognition. One has scored a goal while on loan. One is slightly younger and looks less foolish when playing, but both have entirely ordinary records and no great strength, finishing ability, or pace in evidence.

Two players, two ordinary and extremely similar records... but one of them receives more devotion than any number of PNE pros who do old fashioned things like score goals and win matches. The other is generally accepted as being PNE's worst ever player.

great post.
people claim hibbert as done ok when he comes on. I beg to differ, i remember last season watching hibbert comeon and was surprised at how easily he was muscled off the ball for a big lad, add to that the fact he was lazy and slow.
I have only been on the one game when smith played and that was when he gave pen away when playing out of position

(Space saving)

Hibbert's scored goals in real football. They're at lower level, but he has still scored 3 times in a very short career so far. He's also young, and will improve as he learns more about the game (and preferably bulks up a bit too). He's not going to be the messiah by any means, but he can score goals, and he's shown he's not a total waste of space

Smith has managed to look useless any time he's played a competetive football match in England or Scotland. He's failed to score in 15 starts and 26 substitute appearances at varying levels, or in any of his 18 international caps.

The fact that we shelled out over £100,000 for the guy, and have paid him a decent wage and presumably his medical bills for years now, without ANYTHING back from him, in terms of a positive asset to the team, helps his cause even less.

If Hibbert sticks around for 3 more years, and remains goal-less for PNE, then he may get the same treatment. But I highly doubt that's going to happen.

Well yes obviously if he gets a lot better at playing football then he'll be a better asset for us. At the moment three goals in league one doesn't prove much.

All we really know about Hibbert is that he's currently far, far too shit to play at our level and that we'd like him to come good. I personally can't think of many reasons to think he will apart from wishful thinking. I mean all he has to do is improve his physique, talent, football brain, and eye for goal. Nothing too serious.

The fact that he hasn't even managed to better Andy Smith's record in a PNE shirt after a similar number of opportunities means that soon the excuses will run out.

But it was ever thus. We'd all rather invest our trust in a hundred Anyinsahs McCormacks and Hibberts who somehow, inexplicably might come good in the not too distant future than the players whose talents and limitations we already know so well.

Re: worst player?

He's looked dangerous, and League 1's not that far below us (Just ask the 11 who lost to Port Vale).

And to pick out the young players that haven't made it at this level for us yet, rather than the ones that have makes your last paragraph a joke in all honesty.

Not all young players will come good, but I'd rather have purchased St. Ledger and Chilvers, Anyinsah and Whaley or Nugent and Hibbert than 1 Marlon Broomes, Chris Sedgwick or Danny Dichio.

Edit- I think I may have misread your last paragraph. If you're referring to people's suppost for certain players, you're way off the mark. I've seen many posts on here when discussing players to be moved on that have contained the names Anyinsah, Hibbert and McCormack. I'd just rather have them in the squad than players we know are poor and that won't improve, yet still cost us larger wages.

Without a doubt Tony Lormer, what a complete waste of time and space he was!!! And was it Steve Wilkinson that went to chesterfield in part exchange?

Also Andy Smith is up there, the less said about him the better!!🙄

😡 No Rob,t`was David Reeves who went to Saltergate in exchange for the Lawnmower!

Fookin travesty!

Re: worst player?

Oh dear my knowledge is getting bad, what a good swap deal that was!!!

I wonder where habib does really reside nowadays?

Re: worst player?

Tony "Lawnmower" Lormor was a bad player, as was Lee Ashcroft's mate Habib Sissoko but for me Mark Sale was the one who I remember as being proper DIRE, looked like Crouch but played like his legs were tied together!

Oh if were debating Andy Smith then lets not forget another poor Claig Blown signing Simon "Scottish Michael Owen 😱 " Lynch. Now that lad had problems!

Re: worst player?

I feel sorry for Andy Smith, when he got booed when he came on (a few seasons ago) i felt that was harsh. Not a great player from what I have seen but still it mustnt be nice to get booed by ur own supporters. He needs to get back to fitness, back in the reserves and prove he is worthy of a squad number if not then ship him out.

and by the way it was number 10 he had not 9
