Youth set up

Youth set up

How does our youth system compare to similar sized clubs, I bet we are way down the list, probably bottom.

Luton, Portsmouth and Plymouth all have their under 18s in the Soft Southern Bastards version of Tier 3.

Given Luton had their season in the sun it would be a massive missed opportunity if they didn't invest some of that in improving their youth set-up, especially given their proximity to London and a higher population density in general in the south east.

Plymouth and Portsmouth only just returned to Championship level so given how we're such a well run club it'll be 15 years before they'd even consider improving their set-up.

We beat both Luton and Portsmouth to win the national cup competition in recent years

Luton have been working towards Cat 2 for a number of years. But already run a U-23 squad... cos you don't need a dome to improve your academy. But yeah they'll be Cat 2 soon enough.

The likes of Ben Davies, Bailey Wright and Alan Browne would not have made it here if they'd started out at Championship level.

But you are dismissing three players there who have come through our ranks and made our recent Championship squads before they're 20...

Noah Mawene will be in that discussion next year too.

And equally wouldn't have signed for us if we didnt have an academy..... Bailey chose us over Rovers !

lookin at a previous post, I'm sure I watched Ty Dolan at Deepdale before he was 16... do you agree ?

I seem to recall watching him at Uclan with the scout who took him to Man City - and I certainly saw Brownhill at Springies as a 15 year old when he came for a trial with his PNE supporting Man U scout..... its just we lost all those connections when Westley took over as they stopped sending their talent to us for a few seasons.

Plymouth will be heading for Cat 2 status too...

Strangely it just seems to take investment - a strange concept I know - spending money on long term projects, to reap future benefits.

Don't these silly clubs understand that being streamlined is where it's at!

Dolan joined us from Burnley (ex Man City) at u15s didn't he? Admittedly I wasn't following the youth team quite so much back then though
