Are we turning the corner?

Are we turning the corner?

I don't know about turning the corner yet but you have to say we are in an amazing position in the league considering our horrendous form! I lost patience with Brown way back...But the next three games will define our season..A draw and two home wins and its season back on..even just two draws and we would be stiil near the playoffs...but this is Phill Brown we are talking about and this corner has been so long he is driving us all round the bend!!

Nope.

How can progress be playing 1 striker at home.

Players still being played out of position.

The manager still has no idea what his starting 11 should be.

Players playing matches who are not fit.

That dirge that was on show in the first half!

A manager who is totally incapable of changing the patten of a match when plan A clearly is not working.

I have backed PB most of the way but Saturday settled it for me.

Do not let a average second half performance hide the shite on offer in the first.

The only reason we are not conceding as many goals is because of shite standard of finishing and Stuckman who still remains on a short term contract.

Can you honestly see us picking up points in next three matches?

Personally I'm dreading them. TV embarrassment on Saturday, followed by 4000 gloating Carlisle fans, need I go on.

Phil Brown is not learning from his errors, the football is bloody awful.

Time for a change in my personal view.

As much as it pains me, I have to agree with every word John its embarrasing although, in fairness, I did enjoy the 2nd half on Saturday. I did think we played with more enthusiasm but, as you say 45 minutes cannot and should not cover the tripe on display for most (if not all) this season has had to offer.

We've stopped winning games by not scoring goals at the expense of not conceding goals. It's embarrassing when you don't threaten teams at all in your Home games, and I'd rather we went for games and lost rather than try to shut up shop for 90 minutes.

So you'd rather we end up in League Two than stopping conceding more than we score? Really?

Can't argue with any of that.

The question shouldn't be "are we turning the corner?". It should be: who can replace Brown and do a better job with what he's got?

OK but the point of the thread was to ask the question, based on the premise that Brown is here.

On Bonfire Night, we were in a complete tailspin. We'd spent weeks with goals pinging in around our ears... we were 5-0 down at Charlton... ending 5-2

What can a manager do to arrest that? My point was that, most experts say that the only way (apart from resignation!)..., as painful as it might be, is for him to go back to basics and concentrate solely on plugging the holes at the back. This has worked many many times for football clubs in the past.

Stop the flow of goals.... then rebuild from there.

So 5 goals conceded in 8 games (unfortunately only 3 for) indicates that we've done the first part of that job.... can we kick on from here?

JK makes the point, that I agree with, that Brown's tactics and selections don't have me brimming with confidence that he can take the next step... but we do have the platform and just hope things can move onward and upward.

Fair points but playing 4-5-1 at home to Stevenage just to get a clean sheet and a 0-0 draw is shite.

rem pointed out on the Morgan thread... how few goals we've conceded since Stuckmann and Morgan have been at the back.

Looking more widely, we all know that improving defence is usually the basis for success.... and our improvement has been dramatic.

5 goals conceded in the last 8 games.
23 goals in the previous 8 games.

OK... the 'goals-for' column has fallen over, but my view is that it's an important stage in a recovery.

I'm still not happy with PB.... but do you think it could be a sign of things turning?

5 goals from the last 9 games now !! 🙂
