So Who Now ?

So Who Now ?

What worries me is that Alexander and Unsworth will not be banging on the door of the chairman asking for funds or players. If they do get the job it could be 'work with what you have' and that spells disaster.

Hopefully PR and TH will have 1 eye on who could be coming down from the Prem and the potential for big crowds next season if we can get up. The tramps with the tower, burnley and possibly wigan, the bastards & bolton could all be in the championship next season and that would ensure big crowds, and season ticket sales, if we can get back up.

We need to get out of this pub league ASAP so ready the red carpet and bring back the dwarf.

Yeah you're right when all his cronies decided to leave poor Simmo in the lurch on first day of pre-season! Totally wankerish behaviour, and nobody can say otherwise. .
Then Simmo went right back to Carlisle to get Dennis whats his name. Moysie took a couple with him aswell.

I would worry more about a manager who is happy to keep people he dosn't know, rather than bring his own in.

Maybe when you got two years to build a team you could take time to assess the staff. But any "name" manager who comes to Deepdale will be deemed to have failed if he dosn't at least get us into the play offs.

In fact any managerial appointment at any level is measured as a success or failure over the first six months.

He is indeed an excellent manager, and in all honesty, if he returned I could see him getting us promoted this year. His teams are fit, well prepared, work hard, are very difficult to beat, and defensively sound. In addition, his time here began with a rift...he disagreed with Brown`s sacking, and as result there was, I feel, a chasm between him and the chairman right from the start. Yet he did his job professionally.....and I still get a shiver when I think back to the Derby games, and as the chant began..`We`re on the way....`...I believed.

And maybe that`s part of it. West Ham, Leeds...we failed. And that failure still hurts, and leads me to remember the darker side..the bore draws, the touting himself to a bigger club, the fact he inherited a talented but disorganised side from Pa Broon. I wonder how much of his success was also down to the players and managers that preceded him. I remember the acrimony when he left, and how he seemed to do everything he could to screw Preston North End.

I can handle him returning. I`d welcome it in many ways. And as a fan who wants the best for this club, which begins with us getting promoted to where we belong...yes, I agree, he is by far the stand out candidate. As I`ve said before, I can also see PR having the nous to use Billy and his talents for the good of the club.

It`s the possibility of him turning us down I can`t easily handle. Yes, foolish pride. But also something else too..I don`t believe,I don`t trust. Once before, I thought we were `on the way`. It will take a lot before I make that mistake again.

That is a really good and very fair post. I enjoyed reading it and, like you, I thought we were "on the way" and although we didn't get there, I sure as hell miss that damned buzz after every game win, lose or draw.

I can't believe some of the anti Davies comments by some on here who want to put silly (and even possibly unfounded) stories in the way of North End perhaps employing again one of the most successful managers outside the prem over the past decade.

No one knows the full story re the BD v DS clash............maybe BD did act like a prick, but so do many other managers eg Steve Bruce when it comes to looking for a better opportunity elsewhere...........even Moyes jumped ship with just 8 league games to go when a play off position was still up for grabs FFS, and what about McLeish leaving Brum for arch rivals Villa.

I would humbly suggest that PNEFC is in no position whatsoever to turn down the possibility of having a guy take control who in his last five seasons in charge at Championship level got his club to 5th, 4th, 3rd (and eventual promotion to the prem), 3rd, and 6th.

What better record can PNE REALISTICALLY expect from any incoming manager.

Some on here need to give their heads a shake...........big time.

+1.

Btw, KBD has had 5 1/2 seasons at Championship level saving a bottom 3 NFFC between January and May 2009 in that 1/2 season.

KBD 😀

Thanks for thad JD, and in fact, when BD took us to the play off the first time, he only had charge for the last 41 games, taking over from Craig Brown when we had I think just 3 pts from the first 5 league games, and at that time we were looking more like relegation material than play off participants.

Outside the prem, BD is magic...........and we are most definately outside the prem.

No way would we get a manager anywhere near the quality of Billy Davies (if he doesn't end up here).............and people go on about how much he spent at Derby & Forest, I bet it was no where near how much David Jones spent at Cardiff, (Craig Bellamy, Michael Chopra, Jay Bothroyd etc etc).

We need to stop shipping as many goals as we are currently.........and I can think of no one better than BD to start shoring up at the defensive end of the park.............let's get back to the days when one or two goals at the most was needed for the three points............and we were being criticised for late, very slow, substitutions.

Absolutely spot on.

A very good post!

Bring back billy!

I head the Carlisle manager was in the running for the manager's job. If he does get it, I hope he brings that black striker they had playing for them today -he was fantastic.

We've improved under GA/DU but people are still right to call for Davies. Sick of us taking risks on people who've had 5 minutes of success in the management game. He's a proven brilliant North End manager, let's bring back Billy Davies, sit back and win loads of games.

Bring back BD but not ALL his entourage. Also he mustn't be allowed to do away with our Youth and Reserve setups. I'm sure BD could get the current squad into the Championship at the first time of asking providing he is given enough time so a decision needs to be made soon.
