So Who Now ?

So Who Now ?

OK Boss. We shall see.

PR talks about stability. Then who better but another egomaniac like Davies and his travelling circus, and the sack for Unsworth, Ramsdale, Hoyland et al?

Brilliant! I can't wait!

Davies left us due to lack of ambition. I don't believe he ever tried to leave Derby or Forest. He may have been 'sacked' by them clubs, but were them clubs better or worse after he left? I know we were far worse.

If the big e says we're still in negotiations with Billy then it's pretty nailed on we're still in negotiations with Billy.

Whilst I don`t dispute that, I feel it gives an impression that negotiations are undergoing/current...whilst the reality might be that, as PR hinted at the forum, there has just been an initial chat and no actual offer as yet.

It does, however, indicate that there has not been any rejection yet from either side....but IMHO, the `real` negotiations have not started yet.

( Just guesswork on my part of course.)

Yeah you're right when all his cronies decided to leave poor Simmo in the lurch on first day of pre-season! Totally wankerish behaviour, and nobody can say otherwise. Our youth set up was neglected as well to say the least. Clubs like ours will thrive on being able to produce home-grown players, more so now than ever.

So if Davies is not a fan of lack of ambition, WHAT THE FUCKING HELL WOULD HE COME BACK HERE FOR?!
Genuine question.

Let's not forget he accused double European Cup winners, Nottingham Forest of lack of ambition, despite spending £8m+ on transfer fees, only to lose to a tinpot club like Blackpool for fuck's sake!

Yes, Davies has his good points, getting his side hard to beat /workman-like, etc. This can only take you so far, as we know from previous experiences. But this hero-worship of the man really is quite vomit-inducing, and I really don't see him coming back.

If he has had talks with our hierarchy, I would imagine the main objective would be to boost his ego & to wave two fingers at Preston when he turns us down.

We shall see...

Neal Robhead..I share many of your sentiments. I could handle him coming back, and would welcome it in many ways. But it really pees me off that he gets so much hero-worship, and may turn us down. We are Preston, we should have some Pride.
Having said all that...it`s PR he`s dealing with now, not DS. I suspect our Chairman has an ego, and the experience, to eat dwarves for breakfast.
What can we do, but trust in that? And if he does return, get behind him and the team?

I will Bardas. Just that I don't actually think it will happen. I just feel your Kellys, Darbys, Williams, Balderstones of this world wouldn't do much to make our club better & stronger.

Ramsdale & Hoyland are doing a great job with the youth & Rhino with the reserves, why risk all that just to roll the red carpet out for wee Jimmy Krankie? This isn't Jose Mourhinho we're talking about here!

I dont think its hero worship for 1 second!!! Its the fact that davies builds teams that win football matches and any football fan with a braincell can see that, yes he does have an ego i agree but dont most successful people in life have egos!!

Love him or hate him, Billy Davies is the stand out candidate, and I'd welcome him back with arms wide open. He's the man with the track record that gives me every confidence that we'd get promoted out of this division, which none of the other candidates really do.

He's a decent manager. However I don't believe he's as good as people make out.

He does have credentials, but I just cannot see it happening, you know more than I, I will concede.

What is your gut feeling on this E? And what do you think will happen regarding the backroom staff?
If BD was to come back, I can only assume Trev has had a massive change of heart in how the club shoud be run...

i`m guessing that if he does and I think its a big if then he will have to come without his entourage and work with the team thats already in place. Ramsdale and hoyland have worked wonders with the kids.

How much did Forest spend last season? Genuine question.

His record here speaks for itself, 4th best win % since 1950, 2nd best points per game average in the same period. For whatever reason, he is keen on coming back. I honestly can't imagine why people would be unhappy with him coming back. Every full season in England his team have ended up in the Play Offs. He's an excellent manager.

Gut feeling is its a 50/50 decision but i do know that only 2 0f his backroom staff are likely to come due to david kelly wanting to go on his own[hes applied for shamrock rvrs job] and balderston is supposedly doing well on his own,so that leaves darby as assistant manager or 1st team coach and pete williams who would replace alan kelly as keeper coach as kellys only doing it temporary before ireland meet up again in february.

Last time Pete Williams was at Deepdale he could hardly walk, let alone coach!

He is indeed an excellent manager, and in all honesty, if he returned I could see him getting us promoted this year. His teams are fit, well prepared, work hard, are very difficult to beat, and defensively sound. In addition, his time here began with a rift...he disagreed with Brown`s sacking, and as result there was, I feel, a chasm between him and the chairman right from the start. Yet he did his job professionally.....and I still get a shiver when I think back to the Derby games, and as the chant began..`We`re on the way....`...I believed.

And maybe that`s part of it. West Ham, Leeds...we failed. And that failure still hurts, and leads me to remember the darker side..the bore draws, the touting himself to a bigger club, the fact he inherited a talented but disorganised side from Pa Broon. I wonder how much of his success was also down to the players and managers that preceded him. I remember the acrimony when he left, and how he seemed to do everything he could to screw Preston North End.

I can handle him returning. I`d welcome it in many ways. And as a fan who wants the best for this club, which begins with us getting promoted to where we belong...yes, I agree, he is by far the stand out candidate. As I`ve said before, I can also see PR having the nous to use Billy and his talents for the good of the club.

It`s the possibility of him turning us down I can`t easily handle. Yes, foolish pride. But also something else too..I don`t believe,I don`t trust. Once before, I thought we were `on the way`. It will take a lot before I make that mistake again.

He should never be in the position to turn us down..... and shouldn't be offered the position to screw the club and it's fans over once again. I bought into his shit once before, however I won't buy into it yet again.

As good a manager (results wise) as he was, a return does not guarantee that the same results will follow. I'd rather they gave Unsworth and Alexander the position, both of whom love this club unlike Davies who loves himself.

Sorry to quiz you mate but after my £40 bet was hoping for a bit more than 50/50 HaHa!! Anyway does Trevor definitely really want him at all costs, and what seems to be the stumbling blocks? Thanks!
