Come on people - today was awful!

Come on people - today was awful!

it wasent awful mate, yes we are a fractured outfit with a manger whos bullish attitiude to managament probably means hes lost quite a few of them and yes the day he fucks off im going for a few pints but reagding Saturdays game it wasent awful.

Coventry probably smelt blood when they saw our team sheet and went for it but Stucks kept us in it but after that spell we got the ball down and started to play a bit ourselves. The real test of charachter however was when we went 2-1 down i expected us to fold but we didnt. The lads rolled their sleeves up and came back at Coventry and i honestly thought we were going to nick it. It is what it is mate but i enjoyed the fightback i enjoyed th game and i enjoyed the atmosphere. Dosent cover up whats going on like but regarding Saturdays game it wasent that bad

If that was getting the ball down and playing god help football.

I lost count the amount of times the defenders hit it long under clear instructions to do so.

It goes to show how bad we have become when people find that an acceptable performance.

Better yes, but still poor.

To be fair I saw the team and thought 'oh shit why are Garner and Beavon on the bench...'

The team we had out against Walsall was for me the best team we had available and created fuck all. Yesterday I honestly thought we would go on and win it as I thought we looked more dangerous than we have for a while...

Stuckmann made some routine saves and a couple of very good saves.... but that's why we have 11 men in the team including a goalkeeper.... He did his job...

We never say if Cummins hasn't scored his goal (his job) then we would have lost.....

We have dominated games and had numerous chances and not won at times this season and Westley is only making excuses...... So why are we making excuses for why Coventry should have won

Last paragraph is a very fair comment.

Is it?
Dominate is a very strong word

a_190x190.jpg

Perhaps not the dominate bit I concede that, but the question in principle is fair in my view.

I would say dominate is true..... The stats coming out I games were we were creating 3 to 4 more chances than the opposition but we couldn't put them away.... In fans eyes that was just a Westley excuse.....!!! But it's only what fans are saying about Coventry

And on average our possession is 50%
The amount of chances is not a gauge of domination, it's a gauge on probably how many we miss

Example
Dominating a conversation = you have more air time
I guess it's semantics but a team can happily have 30% possession and get five chances bagging all five.

But a game is only won by scoring more goals and you can only score goals by creating chances.... I believe we have dominated games and not won at times this season....

If you want to get your thesaurus out then that's fine.... but my point is based on the fact people slag Westley for using the same excuses as what they are happy to use for Coventry

And there we agree

Just a few observations:

- Defence: Foster is injured. Is Cansdell Sherriff injuured? Huntington is awful. Laird is injured, Keane is injured. Buchanan has not performed anything like a player of the season with the opportunities he's had. We play a 17 year old kid at left back who has played left back all his fledgling career until 2 years ago when he started playing centre defence; he is man of the match.

- Midfield: Welsh is injured, as is Mousinho. Byrom plays instead of Procter (who everyone hates) and Westley still gets criticized. Byrom is also carrying an injury. For recognized wingers, we have no other options than Holmes or the inexperienced Monakana and Hayhurst. We could give Beavon a go in midfield, but not on the wing surely?

- Attack: Cummins is given a deserved chance in place of the non-scoring Beavon; he scores and is close to man of the match. King (eventually) plays upfront with Cummins and does well. Beavon isn't scoring. Garner has it all to prove. Beardsley is useless. Trundle is recovering from injury and not match fit.

Yes Westley brought all these players to the club and it's up to him to get them to perform. But I would suggest that these are the players that were within his/our reach in terms of budget, rather than the players he would have signed as a first choice. He's already mentioned 2 players who turned us down in the summer because we couldn't pay them enough wages.

We are under-performing and the entertainment recently has been non-existent. But we've got to be realistic, despite what we were told in order to sell season tickets. (they are hardly going to say we are aiming to just stay in the league and avoid relegation.) We have got very little money. We're in a transitional phase, like it or not. The team has only just begun to be built. We've got to look long term, keep our heads and try and be patient (as difficult as that is.) The 'short term fix' approach of the last few seasons is a major reason why we are in this league.

Football finances at our level have changed for good now and I'd like to think we are ahead of the game in terms of cutting our cloth. In view of everything that's happened to us over the last 2 seasons, is it such a disaster if we don't get promoted this season? Frustrating sure, but if it's a means to an end and for the long term benefit of the club, then I'm prepared to ride it out.

OK I take your point, but for Christ's sake, our Graham has recruited something like 40 players in little over 12 months, and yet he still can't pick a decent XI to do a job. We've gone full circle and are currently as bad as we were when he took over. Thought that once he had his OWN players in position, everything would look rosey? Hmm...

The early season promise and feel-good factor has, for whatever reason, been completely eradicated and we look like strangers and confidence on the floor.

Why is this? Surely he isn't alienating players and falling out with them again?!

It seems to me he will only get along with an identikit Westley/Stevenage type of player, and is not flexible in his approach to any degree.

I was hoping he could replicate his Stevenage success here, but this is a total different kettle of fish. That side grew together over time and gained confidence and a proper gameplan that worked. This lot have just been thrown together and despite the extra hours don't seem to have a gameplan whatsoever.

To his credit, he has signed some cracking players for this level, but he can't help shooting himself in the foot by seemingly falling out with his star players. It will NEVER work out for him here.

First time I've said this and properly meant it, Graham, it is time to go. All that travelling must really be getting on your tits by now surely?

A massive plus 1 from TuTu. I wish he had gone after Brentford at home last season, he should have gone in the summer, now it's waiting for that final result too far. I mean no win at home in 10.......that graham by anyone's standards is shit. You are out of your depth and clueless. BYE BYE.

I tend to agree with a lot of what you say. I also find some of Neal Robhead's response chimes with me. That's the problem I want to be patient, I really want Westley to succeed but he makes it difficult with some of hs decisions.

I hear what you are saying about Huntington but I think he looks a class act much of the time but always throws in 2 or 3 lapses in concentration during a match. One of his big issues is not being aware of where players are behind him. I find him really frustrating because he seems to have a bit of quality.

I really do think Beavon would do well for us on right side of midfield. Put it this way, given the choice between having him sat on the bench and Monakana out there at present, I'd leave monakana on the bench!

You have completely missed the point. ALL clubs in our division now have to cut their cloth to suit their finances/income. We are in the top 6 in that respect but nowhere near that in performance.
Why is the team not performing? One simple answer and it's not solely because of the injuries (other teams have the same problem)although they may play a small part - it's mainly down to bad management and tactics.
