Like every PNE fan, I was a little put out by the team selection today; that is putting it mildly. I wondered what had happened to Beavon and Garner and where Buchanan had got to. This was only confounded by an early stage that saw us come under pressure (but no, we shouldn't have been 5-0 down in the first 30 minutes. Stuckmann made only routine saves. His only outstanding save came when the flag had gone up).

A goal for us appeared to change the game and we could've scored again. Leon Clarke was looking toothless despite his rare conversion of a sitter and I thought they went ahead against the run of play. Monakana was a little better than recent times but still a little unreliable.

Connolly made a vast difference. I don't think its a coincidence that we saw an improvement in the first game we have a recognised right-back on the field for some time.

Cummins had his best game in Preston shirt and arguably the best game of a PNE forward all season. Stunned that he didn't get MOTM, though Davies did a fair good job.

Much has been made of the supportive fans and every credit to them/us. I'd like to point out the ATKE fan of row 24 who decided to abuse our home fans for being as good as they were and refusing to celebrate our goals. For those who would slag me off for not being confrontational, I told him he was a moron and he should've saved his money. He is not a ST holder.

I also think the GW chants may have been sarcastic from a large portion, but it also shows another portion willing him to succeed because they love their club more than any feelings they have for our manager.

I'm not getting carried away at all by today but there are many positives to take. I could say we deserved to win but to escape the feeling of bias I will just say that if we improve for our next home game then we should finish the season a high.

I await your bile-ridden responses.

All the best,
Fair-minded fan/Westley wankerette

We could easily have been 5-1 down at half time. There was the 2 'routine' saves that Stuckmann turned over for a corner, they also had a few shots where he did well to catch the ball clean and not smother the ball, and also the chance where they hit it over the bar yet they should have had it on target.

Our opening goal was against the run of play, and we deserved to be 2-1 down. If that had been a boxing match the referee would have stopped the game at that point. They had 14 shots on target, compared to our 3. I'd suggest wasteful finishing, and good keeping got us a point.

Oh, and Monakana was horrendous until the last half hour.

To be fair if Westley gets slated for using stats like the number of chances then yours can follow suit....

2-2 is all that matters. We should be winning at home to be fair but despite the saws Stuckers made early on, for me Cummins missed the easiest chance of the game

Good to know I wasn't the only one watching that game too!

After the diabolical performance against Walsall using our "best XI" the lot of them deserved to be dropped but I didn't expect the mentalist to go and do it!

Cummins was excellent, really pleased he got given a start and hope he's earned the right to a bit of a run now. He looks much stronger than last year holding the ball up.
I don't really follow the youth team much, is it true that Davies always was a left back originally until he was moved to centre half recently? Either way he had a good touch with both feet and once he'd adjusted to the pace and got over the nerves he looked OK. Good to see Holmes encouraging the fans at corners too.

We looked a lot better playing 4-5-1 than we did 4-4-2.

Hopefully Byrom has now used up his final last chance and will be dropped, he was anonymous and giving him games to get fit isn't working. Maybe he's drinking too much with all his Burnley mates now he's back home up North?
I get the feeling we will be parting ways with Buchannon this week, seriously what is it with Preston and left full backs?! We will have to wait and see.

Although it isn't much to shout about, there's no disgrace in a 2-2 draw with an in-form team but we are drawing too many at home. We nearly lost this game in the first half by playing a midfield where Wroe was the best tackler, I know Welsh was injured but come on Graham!

Some positives, some negatives and a draw was a good result in it's own right but sadly not good enough in the grand scheme of things.

Good post this and very fair.

Good to hear a relatively rare balanced account on here.

Where's the balance? It's all spin and frankly nonsense. It was a good entertaining game, but in my view that was in spite of Westley and his ridiculous selection and tactics, not because of him. The one positive was that we claimed a point from a losing position. Still haven't won at Deepdale for the best part of 4 months though.

Yes I too was shocked when I first heard the line up. "How is this lot going to do well against my most HATED team on the planet?" I did not understand why a rookie left back was thought worthy of a start ahead of the experienced Buchannan. I certainly would not have given Davies MOTM as he never got stuck in and seemed afraid of his responsibility. I also questioned Cummins being given a start ahead of either Beavon or Garner, but was pleasantly surprised when Cummins turned in a reasonable performance. I would of substituted Cummins much earlier though as he had been limping badly for his final 15-20 mins.

The overall performance was, whilst far from great, a big improvement on recent home games. We scored twice and seemingly had another not given (early 1st half) - not too sure what happened there as I watch from the AKTE. The last kick of the game involved a 21 Miles East of Birmingham player clearing off the line when a PNE free kick ping ponged around the penalty area. A free kick PNE supporters got right behind and created quite a din (especially by those youngsters who went to the advertising boards behind the net) as the free kick was taken. When the final whistle blew the team were clapped off the pitch, a big improvement noted by the lack of boo-ing.

Yes I would have liked a 4-1 win (my bet would have come up) but I am satisfied for now with an improvement. Roll on Tuesday and Crawley!

I'd like to apologise for starting a thread for this but I'd had a few scoops and that leads to inflated self-importance doesnt it? You all must read my opinion.

Nice responses though. The only thing I would disagree with is Cummins miss. His movement for that was such that he was at full stretch to get on the end of it. I couldn't say if his movement could've been better.

It's nice to see the manager clapped off the pitch towards the end too. It shows that the fans noticed the improvement and the vast majority are willing to give a little credit for that.

There's a long way to go yet.

I certainly wouldn't apologise for starting his thread. Seems a reasonable opinion and the forum would die without people starting discussion.

Not that I agree with owt you've said mind 🙂

I was on the AKTE looking right down on Cummins and i've got to agree with "one of our own" it was a bad miss and he should have at least put it on target if not score and by the look of disgust on Cummins own face he knew it too!! i don't want to sound churlish though as along with most others i also agree that chance apart he'd done well and had a pretty good game and put a shift in.

Cummins in his interview on Radio Lancs last night agrees that he should of done better with that miss header, but he did say that he couldn't jump properly because he was starting to cramp up.
