Summer 2022 : Transfer Window Rumours and Discussion

Wants and desires are not the same as promises.....I can't believe the moaning over offering these 2 players trials on this thread....
It's like these moaning fans think they are personally paying their expenses

Not quite sure who some fans are expecting us to be after. Just constant complaining about whoever it is we are linked with / looking at - after weeks of complaining every time there is a quiet news day.

The recruitment policy is what they said it would be......they've got an opportunity to give someone a trial and probably pay expenses that's it...there's nowt to lose.

Every team wants robust players that can play a certain amount of games so the competition of signing these type of players is gonna be hard.....all u can do is try which is what they will be doing
"WE TRIED" the pne mantra

Brady is a talented player and I don’t think there’s any harm in looking at him in training, just like Woodburn. As others have said, his injury record is a big concern and you’re going to struggle getting double figures of appearances out of him. I think him coming in now suggests there’s nothing close at LWB, certainly before the Brig game.

There’s a little way to go yet so I’m not getting too carried away but is it starting the slow turn to ‘well, we tried’. Great start by bringing in Woodman and let’s see who else comes in.

And the usual people moaning about the people moaning.

We were told of a new direction of recruitment at pne where we don't sign players for the sake of it.

Right on que we have the announcement that we have taken Brady on a trial. ( a trial doesn't lead to a contract granted) a player who started 2 games last season. A player who has been "dogged" by injuries. All sounds a little familiar doesn't it?

Not seeing much moaning to be fair. Just people genuinely questioning if we are following a new recruitment path or just signing the same old knackers just with different names.

Fair point.. but the club need to decide the direction they are heading in. Do we want to bring in young players to develop? Invest in our own academy? Or continue taking punts on crocks? Identifying quality players is great but if we cannot realistically afford them what is the plan?

I really hope we can get Christie and Gray over the line as they would add some experienced quality to the team
He's off to Greece isn't he? Expected to sign on Saturday apparently.

I can't believe people saw what we did last summer (and at the time told moaners to shut the fuck up) but are happily queuing up for more of the same (whilst telling moaners to shut up).

Brady is one of the most injury prone players we could find. In a position that we have zero strength in depth at. But he's cheap and willing.

Our wage structure is competitive, we don't pay less wages, we compete and offer good deals, we have never ever delayed wage payments or asked contracted players to defer payments, other clubs cant get rid of players easy as they owe deferred wages because of covid. It sounds very attractive to know that we honour contracts, this is attractive to players for security,
We are going for better players so they will expect better contracts The saying ( the relaxed pace will win the race ) not much dead wood to shift good things are happening at North End patience is a virtue lets all try to be patient. There are lots of clubs in our division who over spend, have long contracts with a lot of crap players they cant shift. PNE are in a good position not like the Lashers who havn't got anything to look forwards to. Lets all keep the faith and be the 12th man on a match day with the place buzzing when they walk out on the Holy turf up the Whites

I am not complaining but questioning the recruitment policy.

I don’t expect us to be in the market for Gareth Bale but I would expect all fans believe, as an established Championship club, we can attract better than the likes of Jamie Thomas, Connor Wickham, Matthew Olusunde, Izzy Browne etc.

We are being linked with better quality, which is great, but we need to back Lowe and get them signed. Time will tell

We don't seem to follow a particular model, but Ryan Lowe has in the past mentioned that he would quite like some players who had 'been there and done it' in the division.

In which case, Brady would fit.

As long as everyone was happy with the medical and he performed to the capabilities everyone knows he has in pre-season, I wouldn't be against giving him a one-year deal (providing we signed another LWB too...). But that's just me.
But Lowe has been saying for months "we are working hard to bring some better players to the club, more robust players who I can rely on week in, week out, whether they are young, experienced or a little bit older".

LEP added: "Lowe’s reference to players being robust is more along the lines of being able to churn out runs of games at a consistent standard. North End have had their fair share of injuries this season, both long and medium term, which at times has frustrated Lowe when it comes to team selection."

Brady doesn't fit this "robust" model, the way it has been sold to us.

These days he's not so much "been there, done it" as "been there, watched it from the sidelines".

This is the same ernest who still thinks Harrop and maguire could do a job for us....

Where on earth you get the idea that I 'still' think Maguire can 'do a job' for us when I was one of the first people here to state - and get some flak for - that he was now a spent force at this level I don't know. What I have said consistently is that the diminution in his effectiveness is the result of injures and not attitude - I have never once impugned his character or commitment. As for Harrop what I have said is that he does have some genuine talent and has at times shown it for us. I also think he has been badly managed - being dropped after playing well - and has become somewhat demoralised. I did hope RL might provide him with the opportunity for a fresh start but it seems RL himself has discounted that possibility. Fair enough - if another club does not come in for him then maybe his contract will be cancelled in the same way as that of Bayliss was. We can only wait and see.

You do understand that this is a football forum, a PNE football forum and it is normal for people to analyse incoming players and give their opinion.

We have recently had a history of signing some real crocks and it is only natural that fans worry that they don’t appear to have learned any lessons.

It doesn’t make you a better fan defending the club without question.

I have a feeling this could work out. The lad looks the part and he must recognise that this may be his last chance to make a real career for himself.
Can you please explain this as I doubt, like myself, you have seen him play bar his very very early Liverpool games 5 or 6 years ago.

He has done nothing since.

The highlighted segment especially.

Reminds me of when Danny Cadamarteri burst onto the Everton scene with a hyped TV goal but soon faded into obscurity.

Apologies that's on me. It was bayliss. Not maguire.

Would be wrong to deny that he has a good pedigree at this level.

But yeah, it's surprising given his injuries. Odubajo was the same, too.

And we got to the medical stage with him.

Just seems (as so often) the rhetoric we were given in March/April is meeting the stubborn reality of the market in May/June.

Bet you volunteer to put the happy clapper sticks out too. Our pre-season starts in 2 days, the season proper in a month. Were told we would get our business done early and everyone knows the importance of a decent pre-season and prioper preparation. Look at last seasons summer debacle to see what happens when you have a shambolic preparation.

We have a strike force of Riis, Evans and Maguire and no sign of any decent additions to it. We have not replaced two of our best players from last season and despite all the promises and gesturing, so far it has been a summer of disappointment and we are an injury or two away from a being in a relegation scrap. But at least we tried eh.
