Matchday Thread Preston North End v Rotherham United - 16/08/22 - KO:19:45 - Championship

Saturday won’t be 0-0.

Our defence won’t keep Watford out. Has to play Riis, even if that means sacrificing one of his beloved DJ or Browne.
Riis, Hughes, Woodman, and Brady are the only players who should start every game.

‘We’re in the play offs’

We’re four fucking games in. Only 4 points above drop an all.

Some fans.

Really enjoyed that. Could have been 6-2. DJ not at his best but everyone else impressed. Lindsay motm for me. Brady and Potts also fantastic!

Think playing Ledson actually frees up Whiteman to actually get on the ball. Normally when he’s playing at the base of the midfield on his own, an opposition player just stands on his toes all game
I would have started Woodburn just behind Parrot or Riis next to him but I get what your saying.

Riis, Hughes, Woodman, and Brady are the only players who should start every game.
Won’t be suprised to see Brady shoehorned into midfield to accommodate Alvaro, who will have to play a certain amount of games i imagine. Won’t be Saturday though.

One of the most enjoyable games ive seen in a long time. Frustrated with the result? Yes but keep creating as many chances as we did, tonight, and the goals will eventually follow.

Cant wait until Saturday, I reckon weve got a team that can challenge this season so playing watford will either confirm that or shatter it.

Those players left nothing on that pitch tonight.

Fantastic display except for the obvious.
Only slight criticism is that we maybe didn’t need to start with the two sitting midfielders.
Lastly we should only be concentrating on bringing a striker in not getting rid of a quality one.
No point when Lowe thinks 1 up front against Rotherham is OK...no point really

Absolutely frustrating as fuck - I have to admit it felt like a defeat which I know is a bizarre thing to say after a 0-0!!

I'll try and restrain myself but we really should have won that and by a clear margin - credit to Rotherham though they defended superbly. Thought DJ and Browne were largely poor - some of their decision making, touches and passing was below par and we know they are better than that. That said, I thought both of them finally grew into the game part-way through the second half and I honestly thought Lowe made a mistake taking them both of. McCann and Woodburn contributed little and I think taking DJ and Browne off disrupted the flow of the game as we were in the ascendency.

Parrott had a great first half but sadly faded in the second. Just needs that extra support from a second striker and needs to be braver when finishing - does everything else superbly but his finishing lets him down and should have had a couple tonight.

I've been a vocal critic of Lindsay but credit where it's due - he's been superb so far this season as has Storey. Potts ran his fucking bollocks off - a great performance from him and as it's been talked about, what a turnaround. MOTM without a doubt.

Overall, 0-0 isn't a good result from a match we completely dominated. All well and good seeing pretty football but it counts for nothing if you can't stick the ball in the back of the net.
Of course we need a RWB but another striker has become a more pressing matter.

That was a lethal striker away from a very good game. Much better than the last home game.
Parrott's movement was nice, Potts had a cracking game, DJ was a bit frustrating at times.

The atmosphere was the best I've seen at Deepdale since I started supporting them 6-7 years ago.

I'll sadly miss the next match, got family around, but looking forward to the rest of the season.

Rotherham fans will be feeling very fortunate with the result.

Woodman - one wonder save and then got his deckchair out again

Hughes - Usual self

Lindsay - Dunno what Lowe has done to him but hes turned him into a really good centre back. Got his head on everything tonight and looked comfortable and composed on the ball. Can’t really argue the MOTM

Storey - Poorest game of the season for me. Looked shaky compared to the other two and looked like he was struggling to get to grips with Washington. Night got easier when he went off. Attacking deficiencies on show massively tonight too compared to Hughes, didn’t seem to want to advance the ball forward at all

Potts - Near perfect performance and my MOTM. Deserved a goal from his shot and looks brimming with confidence

Brady - Gonna say it. Better than McGeady. McGeady had superb individual moments but Brady makes every game look like he’s training with the U21s. Technically, he’s so far above Championship level. Makes everything look effortless

Whiteman - more involved having Ledson beside him. Needs to stop trying the volleys from the edge of the box, he can’t do them

Ledson - best game from him in ages, looked very composed

Browne - broke down most of the attacks and continues to take too many touches and run into trouble

DJ - had a mare tonight. Right foot completely useless and looked terrified of shooting. That being said, lost control of the game when both went off

Parrott - class act but needs to stop going for placement and making it easy for the keeper, try and hit it high with power. Who cares if it blazes over the bar

Riis - Revitalised us when he came on. Needs to start whilst we only have Parrott

McCann, Woodburn, Evans - Momentum died when they came on

We are a seriously enjoyable team to watch but we have to get someone in that buries these chances. We should be top of the league tonight

Of course, Browne is getting pelters on Twitter.

Not his best game, but we completely lost control of the game when he was subbed off.

Found some of the changes bizarre. Only real negative other than the finishing.

We’ll go up with a proper striker.

About as positive as I can be. Best football since the King Billy days, most of them were 0-0 an all.
Just had a look and after 12 games we had 15 points (w4, d3, l5) or 1.25 points per game. Yet we ended the season on 75 pts (w21, d12, l13) or 1.63 ppg, in 5th position and made it to the Play-Off Final. So far this season after 4 games we are on 1.5 pts per game with a lot more to come, once we kick into gear very soon.
As I see it, we are still above both Burnley and Norwich
