Matchday Thread Norwich City v PNE - 09/12/23 - KO:3PM - Championship

1 point off the playoffs, 3 points off 5th 😁

Only jesting, but it is a fact, for those who like facts.

.
And a fact is that if we carry on the way we’ve been playing for the past 13 games we won’t be anywhere near them.

Bad results over a quarter of the season isn’t just a bump in the road, it’s relegation form.
Lowe isn’t going to change his ways so I really don’t get why some Fans think all of a sudden we’re going to turn it around.

We need a change

To me it wouldn't be quite as bad if he showed a little humility and actually said 'maybe i was a little bit silly to prattle on about a 'Brand' of fast attacking football when actually i've realised that with the Players we have, we maybe have to be a bit more pragmatic, i would like them to get forward a little bit quicker than we do, though, and we are working on that'
Not that i would expect him to use those exact words, but something along the lines of, wouldn't go amiss.
He won’t though, because he would have to unravel everything he’s said since he walked through the door - which would bring its own raft of issues and backlash.

He’s talked up a big game now, he’s got to maintain the narrative, which is only going to end up one way when you have CH and PR running the show.

I want Lowe to go as much as anyone but to vilify him for today’s tactics at Norwhih is ridiculous imo. We needed to stop the rot and he did that, we might even have nicked it.
I agree . . . to an extent. I'm not unhappy salvaging a point, but it's infuriating to hear, from the gaffer himself, that sitting back and basically hoping Norwich make a mistake to gift us a score is the strategy for the match.

If that's what he said, at least he's being honest.
That honestly in going 'back to basics & trying for a 'nicking one' is also admitting that he's not got much in his locker tactics-wise, just right now.
Fingers crossed, it's a stay of execution.
My ideal scenario was that we'd have simply hung-on & converted a penalty in the 96th minute , and he still gets the big elbow.

His bollocks about brand and style get funnier as the days go on.
He definitely was still wearing a 'League One' hat back then.
The thing is , either that hat's got smaller, or summat else has got bigger. Maybe too big.

Surely Lowe, as manager, had the final say? As far as Ledson and Woodburn in particular are concerned, that much is apparent from the number of times he's played them.
( Plus Brady , imo......)
It's not simply contracts to the 2 above (+RB) - but it's the length of contracts, the wages, the ( for myself) the weird high number of times these three seem to get onto the pitch for to simply chalk-up another appearance.
It makes me wonder how close these players and /or their agents are to the manager and / or Chairman. I find this, er, 'unsettling'.

Just been thinking, if this is how negatively/defensively we set up at Norwich, what on earth will it be like at Chelsea?
Also, I haven't heard Lowe mention the Chelsea draw, which is most unlike him. Has he been told he's on borrowed time?

Just imagine if Ryan had asked the team to play attacking football and win the game, I feel his approach was the only thing that held us back today šŸ˜†

We couldn’t even park the bus without presenting Norwich with chance after chance. Today was a bad day and make no mistake about it. Some of the worst football you could wish to see at this level. Shameful.
They just about dropped their bundle in the one corner that we got we almost got the winner . Imagine if we had actually put them under any sort of pressure .. I’m beginning to think the players are on the point of forgetting how to attack and win on the front foot

It's absolutely infuriating seeing the "we don't have the resources" gang talk about style of play. I think most are just absolutely baffled we employ a system the majority of time with 5 defenders and 2 sitting midfielders while still regularly getting spanked. If your pragmatic whilst still getting results (and people can actually recognise a coached system with patterns of play) most would be happy. The standard of coaching is evidently dog. Graysons football was turgid but you were always in a game wherever you went because you knew the players were well drilled.

It's incredible that the guy has been here around two years, he normally plays with wingbacks and we still don't have two out and out wingbacks, just guys who can "do a job", which in some cases "do a job" is debatable.

Some say we should go to four at the back, we are probably the only club in the league that doesn't have two reliable full backs to play there, only guys who are either past their best or injury prone.

This is not down to Hemmings, they made funds available, maybe not too much but a bit more than usual.

This is not down to Ridsdale, it was well documented when Lowe moved in that he would take a step back from player identification and would only try to sign the players who Lowe and his cronies identified. Ridsdale could only get the players identified if the money was right and more importantly if the player was prepared to sign for the club.

Over the last few years it is unbelievable the dosh that has been wasted on some of the shitest players in the clubs history, even worse was that some of them had their contracts renewed.

Since he has been here recruitment has been down to Lowe, this is how I understand it, if I am wrong then the main question that needs asking at the meetings with the club is "who is responsible" because it needs quite a bit of improvement.

A new manager by then who get us to play mid table Chelsea off the park and the pick of their academy players on loan for the promotion charge.

I'm thinking 2-2 draw followed by a win at Deepdale with Riis nailing the winner in front of the Town End.
