Matchday Thread Gentry Day - Watford v PNE - 6/04/24 - KO:3PM

Norwich were probably going to steam roll everyone from now till the end of the season anyway with their run in but that performance today showed no ambition of getting into the playoffs this season, bring on the pre season friendly feeling for the remaining home games.

You’re probably right but I honestly can’t be arsed with it again.

Don’t want to be a depressing cunt, but we’ll get into pre-season, sign some half decent players, then fumble into an 11th place finish again.

We are honestly such a horrible club to support.

Actually thought we did ok. Had the much better chances. Just lacked a bit of quality with our final pass.
Only 2 gripes were I thought our set pieces were poor and the subs should have been 10mins earlier.
Need 3 points Tuesday to set up a huge game next Saturday its still doable 🙏.
Ali McCann was absolutely exceptional today and Greg wasn't far behind. He's an invaluable squad member, on and off the pitch.
Roll on Tuesday

That was frustrating but we did not have Potts, Whiteman, Browne or Millar - to put it bluntly the whole of what a couple of months back we would have regarded as our first choice midfield. Very few teams if any in this division could cope with that sort of deficiency without it affecting their play. This run of injuries has probably done for our play-off hopes - they are now vestigial but not entirely extinct. If we can win on Tuesday this season will still have some life in it. That will require a start for Frokjaer and very likely the return of Browne. But at least we got a point on Gentry Day through a performance that replaced the quality we were obviously lacking with some hard work and application.

I’d much rather have Rotherham’s last 10 years than ours, without a shadow of a doubt.

Sparrow tells it like it is.
" I've seen the twice recently, Today and Birmingham and can't understand how they are in a playoff position"
The Watford commentator said something like ‘looks like we will have put up with Preston next year as well, I’ve seen them twice this week against Birmingham and us and I don’t know how they could be in the play offs ‘…

Shambles, injuries and illness happen but that level of performance isn't acceptable the lack of technique and desire to win shouldn't be tolerated. Pne should sell 8 month season tickets to match the players. Holiday mode activated and its only April. I'd give Seary a good run see if he can handle a run of games.

Complete lack of intent there.

Very much an end of season feel to proceedings, which is a shame as it was still a huge opportunity for us up until Monday.

Can't have a go at the manager too much as he's turned it around somewhat but questions will always remain especially tactically.

Nothing in the game for either side. Watford now without a win in 11 games at home and this, along with Monday, are two opportunities missed. Today was a game which lacked quality, and our one player available in the squad who has that enigmatic ability to produce something out of nothing sat on the bench until the 82nd minute.

The only part of your post I disagree with.

There's never a plan B in games. We've suffered through some incredibly one-dimensional managers in recent years, but Lowe's got to be amongst the most predictable. Too easy to figure out by any manager worth their salt.

If there's a lack of intent, of course the fans have every right to apportion blame.
Yeah, he's turned it round up to the Stoke game.
Since then, it seems he's gone back to the norm.
You can't dwell on injuries in games like this, annoying as it is.
You've simply gotta go for it an we haven't done that

Glad I haven't been in the country and have only attended 2 games this year. I've missed absolutely nothing.

NOT a prayer now this season and early prediction for 2024 - 25 ... We will finish lower and still have LOWE and RIDSDALE in office.

I genuinely am the first to point finger at Lowe when he’s shirked it, but if we genuinely had to start Cunningham, Lindsay, Storey, Whatmough, Brady, Hughes and McCann and expect us to go all out attack, I don’t know what we are all expecting.

That’s IF we had to start them, I’m assuming Holmes and Mads where unfit. But you can’t have 7 defensive players drop Keane to midfield and expect it to be fluid football.

Frustrating but, what can we do.
