Matchday Thread PNE v Leicester City - 29/04/24 - KO:8PM - Championship

A few thoughts on last night now I have calmed down (slightly)

1) We were always going to lose last night. That much was obvious, but setting the team up as he did, with 11 men behind the ball, and absolutely no intention to create anything was abysmal. I lost count of how many times Browne, Millar, Mads or Brady got possession, looked forward for a pass and had to turn back. They all got caught in possession doing this. If there’s no out ball, what do you do? Literally a 550 formation with nobody even near the half way line. Rubbish Ryan. Osmajic was nominally the lone striker, back to goal. He can’t do this. The only player we have that can do that role is Keane and he was stuck in a packed midfield on the edge of his own box for 80 minutes.
2) First goal - Brady getting slated for being out of position, but to be fair to him, he had just chased up the wing and then across to close the keeper down. At that point, the left sided defensive midfield surely would have the brains to drop in at left back. What did Ledson do? Stood in the middle of the pitch waving his arms around. At least Brady showed some attacking intent and commitment.
3) Contractgate - I really think discussion of contracts and finance should stay in house. Ryan had obviously briefed the media of this ahead of the game as I believe it was mentioned on Sky. Really poor and classless. I also believe it to be untrue and a strategy to deflect attention away from himself. Players will not like this either.
4) Good to see both Mawene boys on the pitch. Proper athletes those lads and they will do well.
5) Ryan threw the players under the bus again. ‘Got to listen to me’. They did, that’s why we didn’t lay a glove on them.
6) He promised he would leave if he wasn’t progressing us. We’ve better players than we did when he came, some quality in there as well as the experience. But we are no better. Walk away Ryan.

I’m not a knee jerk reactionary supporter, I’ve worked in leadership for 25+ years, and have a qualification in Advanced Coaching (not the sporting one, I’ve no badges!) What I have learnt is huge, but the big one is people buy into people before they buy into ideas, thoughts and concepts. Ryan doesn’t understand that, he shows it in all his interviews, he takes no responsibility at all and the players clearly now resent that. Go back to when he was appointed. He talked of being ‘gung ho’, attacking with 6 and defending with 4, playing fast paced attacking brand of football, and have a really clear vision of ‘getting the shackles of’. Sounded great, but the reality is watching Ryan’s PNE is so, so boring. The problem, and he can’t see this, is himself. Time to go.

Back from the match (On Sky). We looked beaten before a ball was kicked. The usual dross, poor ball control, dreadful passing,no chance creation, in short devoid of all footballing basics. We reverted to damage limitation earlier than usual. I felt embarrassed by that display-yet again. A total overhaul of this club is needed. Please let the takeover talk be true. Our playing "style" is total dross.

Agree

But Top Ten?

Mission accomplished.

Well done Peter 👍🏻

Just think. We could of had Jamie Vardy before he went to Fleetwood but Phil Brown didn't think he was good enough.
Brown wanted him badly.

It was Magic Mo who wouldn't sanction the £75k that Fleetwood paid for him.

Then when he went to Leicester for £1m, an angry fuming Hemmings had Brown in his office for a rollicking when Magic walked past. Brown called him in and asked Magic to explain to Trev about Vardy. Brown walked out of the room and left Magic to conjure up a rapid explanation.

Magic then leaves the club shortly after due to "health reasons" which is cover for "You're Sacked".

Haven't read this thread back yet and didn't log on last night, but I'm fed up of our negative, boring tactics.
We were always going to get beat last night ,but it would have been nice to have a go at them, you'd have thought we were playing Man City the way we setup last night, even at 1-0 down, we had 11 men behind the ball as if we were trying to protect a 1-0 lead or trying to keep our goal difference intact. We had nothing to play for last night so might as well have had a real go at them, i wouldn't have minded losing 3-0 if we'd actually had a good go, but to lose in the way we did was embarrassing.
The only consolation is that I don't have to witness that again for another 3 months, I'll probably go out somewhere on Saturday rather than watch another inevitable defeat.

There was only going to be one outcome last night, everything conspired to make it an awful night. The weather, the game on tv, massed ranks of Leicester fans silencing us. I can take the loss, but not scoring in 4 games and making the same basic defensive errors over and over is very very annoying. How many goals have we conceded because we haven’t stopped an opposition player early enough. Opposition are time and again allowed the freedom of the pitch. This has to stop.

The shite way we set up to try not to lose, three games on TV one straight after the other, we managed no goals and looked clueless in all three of them. Maybe it’s because recently we haven’t scored so logically (to him) don't deserve to even attempt to score anymore that seems to be the way play according to those that claim it’s a well run club.

The game was played like a pre-season friendly v Man City. Pep style tippy tappy with a Pep lookalike manager and no tackles of note from PNE. Lowe got it all disastrously wrong; that said the Leicester budget with parachute payments makes me quite simply hate the game atm.
Browne is an athletic, strong player who often sets the tone with his combative play. Why would he risk the chance of a lucrative sign on fee elsewhere by getting seriously injured?
As for not playing Miller wide left and not even trying to swap him with Brady , well that’s the reason why I departed on 75. Absolutely piss wet through & even more pissed off .
Yes Millar on the Right.

I nearly spat my brew out.

Fundamentally bonkers. Almost as if we set up to lose.
