Matchday Thread PNE v Leicester City - 29/04/24 - KO:8PM - Championship

Do we even practice passing in training ?? We were failing to make basic simple passes that even a non-league player could do 9 times out of 10 . Our ball retention is absolutely dire ; it's as if they've been told to keep it as little as possible .
Lowe is a tactical pygmy , we will never have any chance of getting to the playoffs or higher while he's in charge .
The owners must surely see his limitations and ineptitude by now ? Yet another horrendous run of relegation-level results and performances - no other manager in the country could survive that but he's there along with his partner in crime Ridsdale . Craig , just put your foot down and get both of these cretins out of the club . Otherwise it's a relegation battle next season for sure .
Perfectly put Mel

Holmes with as many yellows as touches since coming on 😂

Brady has been a revelation since the new year. Holmes has been a let down since the new year
I think Brady must have been given an ultimatum of either start playing or fuck off and find another club willing to pay you for doing bugger all. You rightly say since New Year he has been a lot better. Revelation a bit strong just earning now what he has been handsomely paid to do.

It has taken some time to try & find the words to sum up last nights performance and in truth, I don’t think I can. Last night we had a ‘free hit’ & yet again we failed to take it. Are the players to blame? Yes of course the must share some of the responsibility, but in my opinion the true blame of the performance lies with the manager.
There was an opportunity to show we can be an attacking threat, but the way we set up, the way the way we play our players out of their natural threatening positions (Millar), the speed, or lack of it of our distribution and build up play and the distinct lack of passion (feel free to have a pop at me, but this is what I witnessed) shows that whilst mr Lowe is in charge we will not change.
Tactics, game plans, substitutions and timing of substitutions, coaching, motivation, understanding must come from the manager in the first instance. This is what he is paid for. I don’t see any of this.
Last night I saw a collection of players who either did not understand the instructions given or didn’t follow the instructions given, or maybe there was nothing given.? Either way, the heavy defeats, lack of shots on target, lack of goals, lack of attacking opportunities, lack of passion is becoming rather tedious.
Last night we looked beat before kick off, Leicester never got out of 1st gear, disappointing? Yes, but more so when you think they didn’t have to get out of 1st gear. Yes we made it that easy for them.
Mr Lowe has had 2 1/2 years as manager of our football club (in my opinion that’s 2 1/2 years to long, again feel free to disagree, that’s you’re opinion) and in this time I would have expected to see some improvement in the ‘brand’. I haven’t seen this.
I know there are other problems in the club, notably mr ridsdale and it is true to say that he should be relieved from his duties, but only immediately after relieving mr Lowe of his.
I can take defeat when we try to win games but I cannot accept defeat when we do not even attempt to win games. One shot on target in the 91st minute is disgraceful, at any level of football. Anyway rant over, I’m going back to work.
Safe travels to all you brave souls travelling to WBA on Saturday for our final game off the season, I hope you have more to shout about than last night. Enjoy the summer break and the shopping on Saturday afternoons.

Yep, blame the setup all you want, but it's not Ryan Lowe who made the players give the ball away repeatedly.
No, but I think he does have something to do with the fact that there's often nobody near the striker when the inevitable hoof gets lumped forward.
Or when in possession, player lookin for an option to break quickly, nobody daring to come out of the shape an makin a run, player in possession has to check back.
I think this has alot to do with our master tactician

Well I wasn't arsed about last night & as it turns out neither were the players. A truly embarrassing performance.

As an aside what a absolute walloper Jamie Vardy is. No need for for the celebration in front of the Town End. It wasn't as if he was getting stick & was just giving back.

Should've been booked IMHO.
Apparently, 'a lad' in the Town End gave him some stick earlier but how insecure must you be when you can't accept a bit of banter, from one person, without reacting like an entitled brat? He's 37 years old and a parent for goodness sake!

Total lack of class from a senior pro. I was hoping a PNE player would 'take him out' after that, but sadly, no-one could get anywhere near him🙄

Hadn't heard this before, but there was something on the MTD about his wife having been involved with a former PNE player?

The start of the game, Keane AND Mads were both up alongside Osmajic.

Unfortunately when they have all the possession and progress the ball up the field, they need to start dropping deeper or wider to try and... Yknow, get the ball back.

Leicester were great at making the pitch as large as possible, even the centre halves going wide when building from the back. The fact that their defenders could all play a bit means they couldn't just be ignored in favour of sitting on Winks.

Regardless of that, when we did get the ball back, every single one of our midfielders repeatedly fluffed their lines when trying to get anywhere with the ball. Millar, Browne and Mads, the lads you'd want to have those chances, consistently gave it away and put us back under pressure.

He's got a bit of a reputation for being a bit of a bit of a rod.
What with his other half's "Wagatha" thing (not that I was bothered to follow that particular media-frenzy thing ) - it seems
that the couple are a good match.

That is most of our season in a nutshell.Excellent post.

They did but it it makes it equally difficult when your midfield is so deep an miles away from the front 2 or 1, depending on the set up.
Just pushing up as a unit an generally winning the ball (often) further up the pitch would help that massively but he isn't interested in going down that road

We made it far far too easy for Leicester yesterday. The defending for their goals was absolutely awful. I don't know who comes out of that game with any credit really. Felt awfully similar to the Spurs game, where we didn't lay a glove on them, showed far too much respect and they steamrolled us. I get Leicester are champions and practically a premier League outfit and their wage bill dwarfs ours, but to only get one shot on target until the 90th minute is ridiculous. Lowe needs to go, and despite saying I'll probably renew my season ticket yesterday, I left the ground seriously considering whether I do or not.

I'm also frustrated at how despondent our fans were yesterday. I get that our season has ended without a whimper, a 9th consecutive season of achieving fuck all... but not a single person was in uproar about the running of the club. When are the protests going to start? 😈

I mean yeah, it would be nice to win the ball up the pitch more often, but the best possession teams are very press resistant, Winks specifically is outstanding at that aspect of the game, knowing where to be to have space, and where to lay it off to.

Additionally, with how wide the CBs are, it makes it much harder for the front players to cut off passing lanes, as they also have to spread wide, so whilst Mads could lock on to Coady, Keane on the other side isn't in a position to help. Brady on the left wants to be tracking Fatawu, because he's a massive threat, but that leaves Pereira as a free man if Osmajic is coming back onto Winks or pressuring the ball carrier.

The problem is largely that whilst you can commit more players forward to go man for man in the press, leaving their wide attackers one on one against our cumbersome wide CBs is a recipe for disaster. Millar was probably stuck on the right because Whatmough's lack of pace in particular was a massive vulnerability.
