Matchday Thread Bristol City vs PNE | 04.01.26 | KO:3PM

After the hectic last 2 or 3 weeks, these lads deserve a breather and rest for the Wigan game.

Play the fringe players who need minutes and involve Mawené, Nelson, etc off the bench.

We need to keep up the momentum of winning. Looking at the squad then the players who have not played much recently who could get a start on Friday are probably Walton, Lindsay, Frokjaer, Smith and Keane though the latter two would make a fairly lumbering strike partnership. But extra match experience after their recent lay-offs would probably benefit McCann and Osmajic. Maybe Gibson will be fit enough to get a start perhaps Thordarson as well. Given that he did not get on the pitch today Small probably ought to be in there. Come to that Jebbison might also benefit from a start.

Just a top performance. Reminded me of the Alex Neil days. Loads of intensity, loads of energy, and frightening in transition. The press was set at the perfect times, and implemented really well.

What a difference it makes having some quality on the bench too. All the subs did a great job.

Come on Graig. Now is the time !

Nah, don't let up, we're going for the double!
Seriously though, it is tight in the top half and had we lost today we would be 9th. Lot more twists and turns to come. Good news is we have a lot more players available even though we've lost Armstrong and the bench has good options.

Shout out for Mads.
The whole team were brilliant and it was great to see Mads come on and play so well too. Him and Jebbison added such quality for the last third of the match causing Bristol all sorts of problems pinning them back well with intelligent play in possession and energetic pressing and tracking.
Always been a big fan of his and really hoping he can build on these latest handful of excellent performances and continue to be an important and effective player for us.

Going really well but we have to put performances like at Wrexham behind us.

It’s about being consistently good which is incredibly difficult. Coventry and Boro who were steaming ahead have both experienced wobbles.

January transfer window could have a major effect, especially Ipswich who are overloaded with talent already.

And Wrexham and Sheffield Utd are both on a charge so consistency is vital.

If we could sign players how would that fit in with the current squad and which positions need strengthening, after today’s result we didn’t have any real weaknesses….

Let's not disrespect Wigan and end up losing. Jebbo or Osmajic have to start. I would not change the goalie. Start with a decent lineup and if we get a comfortable lead then make a load of subs at 60 mins. And there's 8 days before the following game so plenty of recovery time.

Unfortunately those kind of performances will happen as it's football, teams don't play at their best every single game, and will have some bad games.

But it's just about ensuring they don't happen too often, which so far, has been the case, which is why we are up there at this stage. Fans don't need to lose their heads any time we do lose or have a bad performance, or if we do drop out of the playoffs, as we have a capable team, and the leagues incredibly tight so can quite easily get back into the top six, as we have done.

1) Honestly don’t think there are six better teams than us in this division when we have our 1st XI available.

2) We are good enough to go up, but please strengthen this month

3) Please stop the Mads hate, he’s fucking class.

I’ve commented that Mads played well when he came on , I’d love to see more of it.

Unfortunately it’s the first time this season he has played well.

His performances up to now have been somewhat lacking as a lot of people have observed.

As a player it’s about what you do, not what you possibly could do.
