The lad will no doubt have some good offers from other clubs, even if we trigger the offer, he does not have to agree to it. A new owner probably gives us a better chance.

I wonder how much hes on at Spurs as well.

Whoever signs him will have to offer a similar if not better contract.

Great player - bags of common sense and maturity . Defo needs signed up - Preston likely need to stretch in this one as he’s clearly and rightly playing his cards close to his chest. Whoever remarked there is a £15m player in the making is bang on the money

He signed a new contract with Spurs before coming on loan so was that Spurs protecting their agreed price by pricing us out of his wages?

Spurs might therefore know that whatever they agreed to pay him would be recouped by us paying for him or they sell for more to someone else if the loan was successful?

They only increased the length of his contract by one year, as his contract was due to expire in 2026, so they needed to do that in order to keep him as a sellable asset with this being a loan.

They've got absolutely no reason to want to deliberately price us out of anything at that stage.

Only way we keep Devine is with a new owner. The fee is suppose to be 4.5m. Thats our whole budget, its just not happening under Hemmings .
To be fair, a lot of fees are structured to be paid over the duration. So if we could sign him on a 3 year deal (although we'd all hope for longer) then 1.5million a year becomes a lot more manageable. Especially when it comes with a guaranteed profit.

Nothing is guaranteed.

Drives me mad when people say a player is guaranteed profit. Absolute nonsense.

A players value and future potential value can obviously become more than what we pay for them. Realising those gains is a completely different story.

That's without mentioning our abysmal track record at actually selling players when their stock is high.

Neal Trotman was a really hyped young player that was gonna kick on. And he was untrainable.

Kelvin Wilson was just unfortunate we had better players in front of him. Went onto have a good career but we didnt profit.

Same as Brownhill - though we should have put a sell on. We chose Browne over him and got nearly 400 championship games from him.

Claude Davis was signed as a really uncut gem. Worked in our side. We made good money for the time and he was awful everywhere else.

By the same token, we got more out of Hugill and Robinson than we could ever have hoped.

Proves the point really, nothing is guaranteed, either good or bad.

He’s more than proved himself at our level, and with his goals and assists this season for a mediocre team should secure a move to a top Championship Club. Who could really blame him tbf?
When the new owner takes over by the summer 🤞, we may soon be classed as a top Championship club and if we could tempt Dobbin to join us that may be enough to convince Devine to sign for us and vice versa.

If he’s going to sign on he’ll need some assurances we won’t collapse like a deflated bouncy castle again at the first sign of end of season pressure.

Or that the pitch won’t end up looking like skiddy knickers after 20 games.

Maybe a new manager, club mindset, new signings to freshen things up etc. depending on how he feels about all of that stuff.

So he’s right to keep his options open and see how things go. Don’t begrudge him for it.

Hope we get a massive takeover and we build the new club around signings like him. Think he’s exactly what we need to crack on. That’s where the bar should be - not Liam Lindsay.

Think was, mentioned at the time the loan was agreed The Lad was,Touching 18k Week wages And we Were Paying Half And Ridsdale Said If the Deal was, made permanent Both The Fee And wages wouldn't stretch them coz Spurs were Happy For instalments And wages covered with length of Contract similar to Iverson (4years) .Which would make Iverson the highest Earner at the moment

If Devine is happy at PNE and that is his main goal in life he will stay at PNE.

If he feels he wants to make as much dosh as he can before he is 35 and thrown on to the scrap heap he probably won't stay.

Maybe a poll is needed to see what forum members would do? 🤔
