Matchday Thread PNE v Huddersfield Town | 08.08.26 | KO: 3PM | League Cup 1st Round (Goodison Park)

Agree. On one hand the red was arguably harsh but letter of the law it was correct and the crowd and player reaction showed no argument.

The Lang one was a stinker, clear and obvious if VAR involved. Right in front of me and when the players react as they did you know it’s a howler. My youngest is an up and coming ref and explained to me how the ref’s positioning was all wrong for a contested ball and it made a lot of sense. He put himself in a position where he couldn’t make a call. And then the linesman bottled it and didn’t help him. He was a very poor ref generally.
Totally agree on both points there. The Lang one was right in front of us as well. Ref in a bad place but Lino should have given it. Then about 3 mins later, a shirt pull on the halfway line was a free kick to us.....arrgghhh!!

I should put in the thread about things that piss you off, is Lino's inability to make key decisions, not just him but in most matches.

Didn't really see the foul on Erabi too well as viewing was quite poor due to the stand not being steep enough and vision blocked to that angle.

There is a lot of work to do with squad, but Gibson's drop off in form is really worrying and at the moment, for all that we say about the three amigos, he would be the one I would want rid of first.

A 93rd minute equaliser is "lucky".

Huddersfield win 1-0 instead and your mood on here totally flips 180*.

I was there and I thought we were very very poor whether 10 or 11 men.

It was the same old PH nonsense formation.

If you're happy with yesterday, then fair play, the maximum height of your bar is a lot lower than mine.

Which bit of 'showed our deficiencies up' do you think says I was happy with a draw against just what I called a decent league one team.?

I have been critical of Hecky and his selections in the past but I thought yesterday he reacted to an adverse situation very well and we actually deserved the equaliser. That doesnt mean I am happy with this squad - I still think we are 3 or 4 quality players short.

The criticism I had and still have is the Lindsay change should have been made straight away. Hughes never has been and never will be adequate in a middle 2.

Reality Check - We just nearly lose to a Side with Whatmough and Ledson in it. Subs where strange and the later 2 should of could on earlier. Lucky to get through. Needs to be a big week on and off the Pitch because next week is a new story.

Im not the biggest PH fan, but he's fighting a losing battle when his two subs combine to save the game and his subs still get criticised.

Burgzorg has been at the club for all of half a day, no one knows where his fitness levels are at

Definitely fair - but it’s always easier with hindsight isn’t it!

And let’s face it, at the time, he probably would’ve been given pelters for a ‘typically negative substitution against a L1 team’.

I did say at the time but obviously I understand the call and the possible reaction.

Doyler, he (Gibson) has been gash for at least 6 months.

The Captain should be someone who is a consistent performer. Who can lead by example and whom the players look up towards.

Gibson is not that man.

My opinion.
Agree and would be interesting to know who you think that man is?🤔

Walk

We walked back to the coach behind some away fans and some of the language used about Burgzorg was 'interesting'. One lady told me she's never hated a player so much!

My only reservation is it was a short cameo for them both but I'm really hopeful about them both.

Short cameo indeed but quite effective............ I was more chuffed that both had the confidence to take their penalties and convert them.

I thought Huddersfield marshalled Osmajic really well. He never had any space. It helps them that we have no one who can see a run and thread a ball through, on the floor/in the channel for him to run onto.
I did think that after the sending off he might get more space but it never happened.
Whatmough was so solid.
Erabi looked like he can win a header. Hopefully that continues, as it looks like that’s our out ball.
We desperately need a creative midfielder as the long balls to nowhere are so predictable and ineffective.
With a decent ball player, we would have cruised that game.
We played right in to Wattmoughs hands. High balls up to Milly. Everything Milly doesn’t want and everything Wattmough would have wanted. Milly would have loved a foot race with him but we couldn’t offer it.

I think it's pretty clear that no one in this squad is captain material. Lots of weak personalities.

But fewer than 12 months ago, you said Gibson was our best CB.

You also said, fewer than five months ago, that Hughes should no longer be a first team player.

Appreciate that it’s just your opinion, but club captaincy isn’t something that changes like the wind based on short-ish periods of form. And rightly so.
Yes, and in the last 6 months, for whatever reason, he has been poop.

Fewer "than 12 months" is heavy lifting as it is about 14 days out from a year! 🙄

Do you agree or disagree with the poop comment?

Seems like you've been deliberately trolling me the last 36 hours.

Strange.
