Summer 2026 - Transfer Rumours and Discussions.

Liverpool can feck off.

I presume this is how they say thank you for the classy way we handled the Jota tribute last year. They couldn’t say enough nice things about us then.

Scouse twats.

Being decent human beings about a bloke with young kids dying has no correlation to them not letting James McConnell out on loan.

Bit odd.

We can't expect a favour from them for that, and nor should we. A bit like playing the piano at a young lad's funeral and expecting the mother to give you a tip at the wake.

McConnell is Liverpool's player and they can do with him what they wish.

@Gordon Bennett in incredibly rare bad take shocker!

For the first time in PNE Online history, the user known as Gordon Bennet has posted an opinion that people generally don't agree with.

Analysts believe this was likely an isolated incident and that Gordon will soon regain his 4/1 ratio of high quality puns to informed PNE opinions.

This is a developing story, more on this as we get it...

Some decent business done , but with McConnell now likely staying at Liverpool, Mills possibly only coming in January and no talk from the manager saying we definitely need another CB .lm really hoping we bring in another couple at least before Saturday . From being very optimistic before Saturday’s game I’m now less so .
Of course things might get back on track before the window closes fingers crossed .🤞🙏

The tip being, "you were playing all the right notes..................but not necessarily...............................(fill in the blanks yourself).

So Armstrong permanent and McConnell loan are deals that seem to have fallen through. These things happen and in neither instance was it our fault but entirely the result of things that happened with the player or their club so we don't need to beat ourselves up about either of them. This may sound like hindsight but I always had an odd feeling about the McConnell deal and so I am not totally surprised by what it seems has occurred.

The only possible incoming deal that we know about that may still be live is therefore the one for the lad from Oxford and if there is now a serious fallout there you would have thought it was best for everyone that the deal gets completed as soon as possible irrespective of their incoming transfer situation. I am not ITK on that or anything else that it is current (though I do know for a fact that 'Medals' complained that our signings when he was here were not his but let us say someone else's) but I would guess there has to be a chance that may happen fairly soon.

Otherwise I would say that our priority right now has to be to find another central midfielder to supplement McCann and Leroy because we simply cannot afford the possibility of having to rely on Thompson for anything but the occasional cameo - don't get me wrong I am sure he is a decent individual and tries his best but he is patently inadequate for Championship football. But unless we had a fallback option already in mind you would imagine that is unlikely to happen this week.

At the moment we are still in numerical terms three players short of the outfield roster we had at the end of last season - leaving aside the one-out, one-in goalkeeper situation it is currently eight-out and five-in. So if we do bring in another central midfielder and wide attacker then that would leave one space available and I would probably lean towards using it for a mobile defender though whether for the centre or the left flank is a moot point.

That would still leave us ideally in need of another mobile defender, a further central midfielder, another wide attacking midfielder and even a striker though I see no point adding a further striker until we can sort out the requirements further back in the team - for the moment Osmajic and Erabi can be supplemented by Lang and if need be Burgzorg.

The problem, as we all know, is that we are hamstrung by the legacy of the lazy transfer and contract extension deals we have pursued over the last couple of seasons. To put it bluntly whatever their past service Potts and Hughes at the least should simply not still be here and Thompson should never have been signed. I know others would add Storey and Lindsay to that list but with a more mobile partner beside them both can still be useful and I actually think Storey is consistently underrated. Valentin is probably also insufficient.

Anyhow that is the situation as I currently see it. For the moment we just don't know how it may look when the window shuts in a couple of weeks but I would hope there will be at least three further signings and if we can somehow move on some of the fringe squad members perhaps one or two more.
