Seeing as the Winter Window thread is now closed, might as well start up the summer thread.

So we know that OoC we have the following.

Cornell
Pradic
Brady
Hughes
Mawene
Lewis.

All 6 can leave with thanks for myself. Hughes is a difficult call but based upon his age, then sadly, the correct call is a sad goodbye as a 1st team player. I wouldn't be upset with a new 1 year deal as a back up as we need a younger 1st choice player.

The Loans will all be most likely returning to their parent clubs with only one having a possibility of returning (Devine).

So it is goodbye with massive thanks to

Devine, Dobbin, Jebbison and Lukovic.

Then we have a batch of players whom I don't feel are good enough / on the slide who should be moved on.

Potts - 1 Year left.
Lindsay - 1 Year left.
Walton - 2 Years left.
Thompson - 1 Year left (+1)
Smith. - 1 Year left.

Which leaves us with a core of 14 players.

Iversen
Storey
Gibson
Offiah
Valentin
Vukcevic
Small
Whiteman
McCann
Osmajic
Moran
Lang
Nelson
Carroll.

It is once again going to be a big big summer of change on the pitch that we absolutely have to get right.

I would like to think that if new ownership arrives, that we extend our scouting into Spain, Portugal, Central and Eastern Europe where there will no doubt be some hidden gems in the 2nd divisions of Spain, Germany, Italy, etc.

Thoughts?

I can see Smith returning to Wednesday in the summer. More suited to L1 and they love him over there. Best move for all parties.

The problem is we will be lucky to get rid of any of those 5 unless, like Aberdeen, another team shows some interest. Wages will be an issue for most of them.

One of the strengths of Hecky has been his ability to move players on fairly well. Telling a player to “do one” in a Barnsley accent seems to get the message across fairly clearly.

Depends if the takeover happens. I would imagine a new ownership would also look to move on your Storeys, Gibsons, and maybe create some extra income by moving on Whiteman and McCann, whereas if Cersei Lannister is still running the club we'll probably just loan out Potts and Smith and get a few U21s on loan from Category 1 academies to make sure we can fill the bench

14 players including Nelson and Carroll sounds a bit depressing. I don't see Thompson being moved on at all and would only expect 1 of Cornell and Walton to depart. Cornell being OOC seems the logical choice.

Lindsay is quite unique in that he probably wants to be playing more but most fans think he should play less than he does and he's been lucky to get as long as he has out of us. Perhaps now, having aged a bit and fallen down the pecking order, it might be the time to move back to Scotland, even if on less money.

Potts - touched on it the other day. Sadly it seems he has either lost a lot of running power and/or can't get up to speed fitness wise. Which unfortunately means he's not of much use. Can cover a few positions for us but not if he's unavailable. He's been a decent player for us, given us some good moments so I take no please from saying it, but league 1 beckons. He looks like Keane did last season...

Smith - I've defended him, he's better than people think and I don't like singling out players. The reaction when he gets subbed on etc is pathetic and brainless. I don't think he's been helped by our inability to play to his strengths when he's on the pitch, either. That said, if we can move him on and try to get a more mobile or effective replacement then we have to try and explore that. Won't be on massive wages so could be a good shout for a league 1 club. He's been massively successful in that league before.

This will leave us with just Osmajic and Lang as forwards. Might as well try and get Osmajic tied down if we aren't going to sell. If he can have a full season without any drama or injury then we will benefit with both goals and transfer interest. Big if though.

That may be so but if teams don't match their current wages why would they move? Potts, Lindsay and Smith are probably on a decent wage.

Depends on the player ultimately. When you're over 30 too, sometimes it's the years that matters more than the pay and sometimes it's the game time.

Slightly lower pay, game time and a two year deal might tempt some players more than a sitting out one year on a higher wage but no game time as that impacts their future income. At least you're guaranteed an income for longer than.

Sometimes it's as simple as just wanting to enjoy things. Alan Browne took a paycut to get away from Ryan Lowe. Ched Evans could have had a coaching job here but left to play football at Fleetwood.

Its difficult to speculate on the summer window yet as we have no idea who our owners will be.

If the IOM clan are still in charge, it'll be the same I'd guess as last summer. Not much spent in terms of fees, a few free transfers and 4 or 5 PL loans.

I've said it a few times but unless the ownership changes, the season we go down with a whimper will be the season they get the loans wrong.

Lost count of how many summer rebuilds we have had or attempted.
Out of the 6 OOC players. Hughes gets another year for me, he’s been solid for most of the season and will be a good LCB back up.

We are in need of
Good back up keeper
RWB to compete with Valentin
LCB to be the first choice over Hughes another Offiah type
2x CM to push McCann, Whiteman & Thompson possibly 3 if Devine doesn’t stay.
At least 2 strikers 3 if Osmajic is sold.
If any others are sold then they need replacing.

GK Iverson, New, Walton
LCB New, Hughes
CB Lindsey, Gibson
RCB Storey, Offiah
LWB Vukcevic, Small
RWB Valentin, New
CM Whiteman, Potts, New
CM McCann, Thompson
CAM Lang, Moran
SC Osmajic, Smith
SC New, New

Another big task on our hands this summer. Let’s hope we have new owners to invest some much needed funds for players.

Ched Evans could have had a coaching job here but left to play football at Fleetwood.
Do we know if The Chedster is going to be registered as a player for the 2026-27 season?
The lad's got a great football brain in him & as an ' Attacking-Coach ' he'd definitely be in the running for such a position at Deepdale, if there's a opening .

I hope we look at this summer to try and rid ourselves of this turgid system.

Gk: Iversen
RB: Valentin
CB: Storey, Offiah
CB: Gibson
LB: Vukcevic
CM: Whiteman, Thompson
CM: Moran, McCann
RW: Lang
CAM:
LW: Small
ST: Osmajic

Try and get rid of Lindsay, Potts, Brady, Walton, Smith (haven't included Thompson as think it will be difficult to do so)
Wouldn't be upset if Hughes stayed on.

Then sign:
