Referee watch

Referee watch

I noticed yesterday in the first half the ball went out of players on the far side of the pitch for a Stoke throw. The ball went straight to a ball boy sat down so he passed it to a Stoke player, the player walked to widths of the grass sections, between 18/20 yards up the pitch stopping just inside his own half.
On 2 occasions when North End tried to take a couple of quick throw ins that I saw đź‘€ the ref moved us back 1 yard and the other time he actually brought us forward 1 yard right in front of Alexander, its not just penalties. Fuckin refs

Whatever position we take our throws from we lose possession within 3/4 touches ,if we are awake that is, thats what we are good at, gvinng the ball away, Note the kick off qt 12-30 + 5 seconds.
Clueless.

Our thrown ins have been awful for at least 10 years. Throw it down the line and hope it goes to a PNE player and they control it. Even then there next pass is backwards so we lose momentum or to the opposition

We literally kicked it out of play straight from the KO, yesterday. I said then that this probably sets the tone for the rest of the game.

Potts tried to show some aggression but no, Mr Ref quickly put a stop to that too.

The apathy is now obvious both on and off the pitch.

And also note how many times we allow the ball to go out of play rather than controlling it and trusting ourselves to do something with it. The biggest example yesterday was Hughes with 5 minutes to go, there was nobody within 5 yards and he let it roll out of play for a throw instead of controlling and delivering a simply cross. He then gave the ball away within seconds of the throw being taken.

A good referee yesterday to keep my post on track!

I was equally frustrated by that, a chance to get a ball in while the defence may have been out of shape was wasted. Really really poor.

I noticed this myself and thought as he was letting it go out for a throw in. We are terrible at them, even worse when attempting long throws. Just control the ball and whip it back in when the defence may not be set up as they would be from a standard set piece

I don't know if this is true, but for some reason I think the officials are given dossiers on teams and what to look out for. If this is true, then the club should ask when this dossier was last updated and if the contents of dossier is impacting the decisions that are going against us.

I recall after getting a bad run of decisions against us, we had Anthony Taylor ref us in game against Coventry. In that game we got a penalty for something that was never a penalty and won 4-1 with us for once getting some other favourable decisions if I remember correctly.

With regards to the kick on Hughes, sometimes something happens and you just can't process that what you had seen happened. I think that was more a brain fart moment than anything else, but that is why I am more surprised that he didn't give the second penalty. Cause he had time to process the Hughes incident and should have realised that he didn't have to err on caution for the second claim.

After reading about the ref being the brother of another official that the club experienced issues with in the past, maybe it's time that refs automatically have it on their records that there could be a conflict of interest against clubs that they've had previous with and in this case it should also extend to their family members. Personally, I don't buy into it but others have been mentioning it and to protect the officisls and the integrity of the competition maybe it's time for the this to be the case. Also, it could be used to get rid of the truly awful refs.
I think all the above is true, and more. After 50+ years of watching football I have reached the conclusion that all the above is THE only rational explanation for many decisions.
Remember how whistle blowers have been treated in the NHS and elsewhere. Question the capabilities of the 'authorities and you will be punished.
All very 1984 and draconian but all very real, I believe.

Good analogy to choose!

Not had Busby yet this season. Don’t think we’ve had him since he gave a penalty for the dive from Jack Clarke last season
No we haven't. I do recall him missing Ched Evans being clearly brought down for a penalty and red card at Coventry but it's Madley I detest for non footballing reasons.
