For once Derek..........

For once Derek..........

But Simpson signed St Ledger....so at least he's paid us back to the tune of about £3m ;-)

How much did he spend on Nicholls and Carter, we have still to suffer Carter and Nicholls walked away with his contract paid up, we also had to pay Simpson off too, kind of takes care of the £3m😡

The discussion tonight really hasn't got anything to do with Paul Simpson. FFS get back on track. If St. Ledger goes on a loan deal, PNE might a well just call it a day.

Show some balls.

Selling Sean St Ledger (or an initial loan, or whatever) to Middlesbrough (a promotion rival, no less) would be an error of the gravest order and will prove once and for all what the club's ambitions are.

After a decent start, selling our best player would also announce to the rest of the squad that we're not confident of making a bid for promotion which will leave a trail of devastation throughout the remainder of the season and beyond.

KEEP SEAN ST LEDGER AND GO FOR IT, DEREK - if we keep him we are perfectly capable of promotion, if we don't we've fucking no chance believe me.

He'll be worth more at the end of the season because he'd have had a good season followed by a World Cup with Ireland - this will put £2 million on his value. How can we afford to cash in now when he'll clearly be worth more next summer?!

I'm seriously worried, it seems to me like the club are pushing SSL into a move because they don't have the balls to attempt to see the job through.

I hope I'm wrong.

If you say we've got a good chance of promotion if we keep him, why are you so negative all the time?

BUT......While I don't think it's down to just Derek, I'm completely with you on this one!

Good. I think this has been a productive thread because this appears to be something that we all agree upon.

Hopefully Derek et al will take notice and realise that this move would be a disaster for the club in very many ways.

put it this way; your about to lose the roof over your head, you can't borrow anymore because you've hit your overdraft limit and you aint bringing enough in to pay the bills. So what do you do? Do you call in the adminstrators or do you offload a player to keep your head above water.

Footnote; Do you really think Shaw wants to sell a guy he busted a gut to keep here making him the highest paid player the club have ever had in the process and course Sean dosen't want to go and of course Derek dosen't want to sell him but unless we can get full houses for the rest of the season or sombody comes in with £hit loads of money what choice have we?????????????

Problem is Steve, we'll be losing money at an even quicker rate than we are now if we continue to sell our best players - let alone one who's a crowd-puller.

I'm not saying that we can't sell him at some point per se, just that now is just a very very bad time to do it. Surely our debtors can give us grace till the end of the season, or is that beyond Derek's blagging capabilities? 😱

I agree with you and I think a sale in January woud be inevitable in any case. But....the whole thing about this (rumoured) 'loan', to a rival Championship club, would be a PR disaster for PNE at this time. As the season progresses and St Ledger gains more international experience and is hopefully part of a successful PNE side, he could well get a move to a much bigger club at a higher fee. That's only 4 months off. I would hope that the bank/major shareholders would be reasonable and at least cut some slack here, knowing that he will eventually be sold.

were losing a lot of money each week mate. We ahve to sell, our crowds are piss poor and self fufilling prophacy comes to mind with a lot of our supporters. Crystal Palace put their entire squad up for sale before the season started. I hate it as much as you mate but were desparate trust me. WE kept hold of him last season and pushed the boat out even futher signing Wallace. We have pushed the boat out for 10 years and should ahve gone up in 2005 but Billy Davies refused to play Alexander and played Mawane instead but thats another story. The crowds arent their mate and even when we were top of the championship we still only got 12,000.

Derek should be knighted in the new years honours list for me but thats just my opioion. He's beg stealed and borrowed to get this club were it is today so i for one am going to stick up for the guy. Were in a no win situation and ledge is our only saleable asset. I hope he dosen't go, Derek hopes he doosent go but when your bank manger stops paying the rest of your players wages unless you put some money in your account than your £ucked mate!

Are things really so bad surf or are you assuming the worst?

Our wage bill is something else mate and we can't maintain unless we get some money in fast. This cup run as been good for us and a full house V spurs wouuld be fanstatic even though we have to split the gate money 50/50 with Spurs but eevn that wont help us in the long run. the club are doing everyting they can and we are already challanging for promotion but i bet we wont even get 12,000 on v Swansea. Its such a shame as the club have worked so hard to get us were we are today!

The fact is though, we're not talking about serious money here - Nugent went to Portsmouth for £6 million, Macken for 5, etc. You can understand selling these players because they wanted to better themselves and play in the Premiership.

Clearly St Ledger isn't arsed about moving to Middlesbrough, he obviously thinks that he can get to the Premiership with Preston because he's confident enough in his own ability to push us there. Sadly PNE don't share his confidence, hence the drop in gates and the drop in income.

No debtor is going to put us into administration while we hold saleable assets and while we're a viable company - it just isn't going to happen. If we don't get promoted then that's the time to sell St Ledger, but I believe that we would come very close with him in the side.

With or without Mr Maddock and Mr St Ledger stirring shit on here, it sends out the wrong message, you just can't get away from that.

No, I was meaning the actual deal, or the nature of it as rumoured, would be a PR disaster. I agree that it is inevitable he will go, but a deal like this would not be good for the club.

3 points: players aren't classed as assets on a club's balance sheet, and how could anyone call a company losing what, £200,000+ a week (?) and in debt to the tune of £10m 'viable'. Plus, creditors, not debtors, would 'put us into administration'.

Apologies - I'm ranting a bit and not thinking too much about what I'm typing! I think you get the point though. 😎

more like 60k a week

I think this is all rumours.
But if its not, then id definately wait for the end of the season and then cash in on him after the world cup to recieve a higher amount.
Or 3.5M and Adam Johnson would be fine 😀

Let's not get personal.

Let's not get personal.

Got to agree with every word of that mate. Unfortunately!!

I agree with most of the sentiment, I don't want St. Ledger to go, and I think the only viable financial strategy for the club is to take a risk on promotion at some point.

It is easy for all of us on here, because it is not our money at stake. I promise you that you think and behave very differently when it is.

I don't agree with the personal criticism of the board. You cannot expect Derek to renege on loan commitments he has made. I wouldn't do that nor would any other rational business person.

In this kind of situation the question asked is usualy somthing similar to ' if we keep him can you deliver promotion'. If the answer to that would be no, Derek may not be able to resist moves to balance the books.
