I've barely been able to access the forum for the last few days. It keeps giving an error message along the lines of "Oops there has been a problem accessing the server".

I've cleared cache, tried different browsers, all the usual stuff. Very occasionally it works (like now), but 9 times out of 10, if I click on a page or refresh the browser, it just hangs and nothing loads.

Could well be an issue at my end, but just mentioning it.

I think it will be a cache issue but will look into it.

If it happens again, please could you take a screen shot and send it me?

Many Thanks

I've just run Ccleaner (for the millionth time), and at the moment everything seems ok, so fingers crossed I've got over the blip. Cheers JK.

Replace your turbo-boinger 👍

It's been doing this for the last hour. I've tried refreshing & clearing cache, numerous times. (Obviously I'm back in again now)

Hello again.

The hosts have checked and can not find any issue ar our end.

Suspects its something on your device or hub which is affecting java scripts.

Suggests having a reboot/clear of anything you can.

I've been asking my friend at ChatGPT and she says it's an issue with the forum, not my Chrome browser:
is this something I can fix in my chrome browser, or is it an issue with the website I'm trying load www.pne-online.net ?

ChatGPT said:

Great question — and based on what you've shared:

🛑 This is not something you can fix in your Chrome browser.

✅ It is an issue with the website you're trying to load — specifically with how www.pne-online.net is loading or initializing its JavaScript.

🔍 What’s Actually Happening?

When your browser loads the site:

  1. The JavaScript on the page tries to run this line:

    js
    CopyEdit
    <span><span><span>XF</span></span><span>.</span><span><span>extendObject</span></span><span>({}, </span><span><span>XF</span></span><span>.</span><span><span>Lightbox</span></span><span>.</span><span><span><span>prototype</span></span></span><span>.</span><span><span>options</span></span><span>, {<br></span></span>
  2. But at that point in time, XF.Lightbox is undefined. Which means:
    • Either the lightbox script didn’t load yet
    • Or it failed to load entirely (e.g., network error, wrong order, bad plugin)
So Chrome is just reporting the symptom — but the actual cause is with the website’s code.

🧪 You Can Confirm This in DevTools

  1. Open the site: PNE Online
  2. Press F12 to open Chrome DevTools
  3. Go to the Console tab
  4. You'll likely see the exact same error:

    javascript
    CopyEdit
    <span><span><span>Uncaught</span></span><span> </span><span><span>TypeError</span></span><span>: </span><span><span>Cannot</span></span><span> read properties </span><span><span>of</span></span><span> </span><span><span>undefined</span></span><span> (reading </span><span><span>'prototype'</span></span><span>)<br></span></span>
This tells you it's a JavaScript bug in the site itself — not something you can fix as a visitor.

💡 What You Can Do (as a user)

  • Try hard refreshing: Ctrl + F5 (or Cmd + Shift + R on Mac) — in case a script failed to load the first time.
  • Try in Incognito Mode — in case an extension is interfering (not likely here though).
  • Try a different browser — Chrome vs Firefox — again, just to rule things out.

🛠️ If You Run or Know the Site Admin

Send them this error report or let them know:

"There's a JavaScript error on the site — XF.Lightbox is undefined when trying to extend its prototype. It’s likely a script loading order issue or a broken plugin."

Would you like me to quickly check the site myself and confirm if the error still exists or maybe point out the exact failing script?

Yes, I’ve checked www.pne-online.net, and the JavaScript error you're encountering—Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'prototype')—is indeed a problem on the website itself, not something you can fix from your browser.

It’s odd that it’s not affecting all users. Can you try an incognito window or forcing a refresh of the browser with Ctrl+F5 and seeing if same issues occur.

Does it happen on all threads or only certain ones as it looks like it could be affected if there is a quoted post in a thread

Yeah, I've done all of those things dozens of times, in the last 3 days. It happens on multiple threads.

My cache is so clean, you could eat your dinner off it.

I'm completely open that the issue is probably at my side, it could be Avast or firewall or Virgin hub or any other IT gremlin. I get that. But the ChatGPT thing doesn't seem to think so.

Have you tried using a different browser? Could be a bug with an extention?

it's not only him tho is it.
I have never had an issue, it's the first I'd heard about it. But I don't frequent the help section of the forum as I don't have issues. I'd suggest this is raised by everyone impacted by this in the help section of the forum. Everyone should provide their OS and browser details to help the admin with troubleshooting.
