After the events of today and several arguments over social media (urgggh!) I feel compelled to post/start a new thread which is rare for me - don't think it fits in anywhere else as it covers a few things.
Ryan Lowe.
It comes as no surprise that I'm not his biggest fan to say the least. His reign started off pretty well to be fair and at first the football was quite entertaining - it seemed quite refreshing. However, over the past 18 months or so, it has soured very badly, even to the extent where I don't think any managerial reign has soured to this extent.
I've been most vocal of my criticism of him - the dreadful standard of football, sticking rigidly to the same system, inability to admit he was wrong, crap spouted off to the press/press conferences, general attitude (slumped in the seat at Burnley being one), rumoured fallouts with players including our captain with 400+ appearances... I could go on. It came to the point, certainly for me, that he was becoming insufferable. Obviously, I've ripped into him several times on here whether that's vocal criticism or piss-taking with one of my memes. These are of course not to everyone's taste - humour is subjective of course, but I honestly don't give a toss. I was accused of bullying - if some people think that then so be it.
I honestly don't regret a single bit of what I've said - I honestly just think the bloke's a prat with an ego as big as his head. At one point I genuinely thought he had changed - more fool me as he soon reverted to type.
I certainly didn't like Westley but even he had a use to an extent but I admit I don't think I disliked him as much as Lowe (controversial, I know).
Strictly on a football front, he showed himself to be one-dimensional and showed a reluctance to change, hence his shoe-horning of players into certain positions.
Peter Ridsdale/The 'trust'/Hemmings Family
Laughable that this guy is still at the club. Have we made any progress during his time here, bar the play-off win which was NINE years ago?! Again, I've made no secret of my dislike for Peter both personally and from a North End fan perspective.
Peter likes to bang on about the ongoing support from the trust/Hemmings family - now I'm grateful for their ongoing support but there just seems to be no desire to grow the club and move it forward. All the ambition seems to be is to 'keep the club going' and that's about it. I'm sorry but that's just not good enough - this is a competitive sport and there should always be a desire to be the best, no matter how difficult the path may be and not just settling for mediocrity whilst pedalling the same old excuses.
Peter has a proven track record of failure - you only have to look at the long list of failed managers under his tenure although to be fair, I think it can be argued one manager (Neil, even though I don't like him) had the life beaten out of him with lack of support etc. Not to mention a trail of piss poor transfer decisions, best players leaving for peanuts/nothing.
It's time for the trust/Hemmings family to wake the fuck up - get shut of this old dinosaur and formulate a clear plan for moving the club forward. If it means introducing a concept where we bring players in for small/smallish fees, develop them, sell them on for decent money in order to build ourselves up, fine (so long as we are entertained and not bored to within an inch of our lives along the way!).
Me? Well I admit I'm one of the biggest complainers on the forum. Why? Because I don't think we should settle for and accept mediocrity like a certain demographic on a certain social media site. We need to strive to do better. In the past 15 years or so, we've been bypassed by Luton, Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford to name a few. Hell, even the lashers had their day in the sun. It's pretty depressing.
Overall, I'm still not happy with the direction the club is taking - we simply can't afford to keep sitting back and aiming for midtable. There's only so long you can flap around for before you eventually drop.
Anyway, there's my thoughts so pick apart at will! 😉
