Absolute Basics

If we can pick something up at Stoke and then back it up against Sheff Utd, we'll build some belief.
What impressed me most yesterday was the way we got hold of the game again a few minutes after the equaliser. I think there have been some harsh words this week after the first few weeks of "giving them a chance".

My issue with the podcast this week: the normally excellent Ollie stating that we were wrong to remove Heckingbottom. I don't think the WBA performance would be anything like under Heck. The long term damage he has done through his involvement in transfers is incredible.

I think you have highlighted the major issue with him. He was arrogant enough to feel he knew a player and the evidence suggest he was, transfer wise, probably our worst manager.

(Before people reference Westley here remember that two of his signings would, years later, lead us to glory at Wembley)
Westley signed some great players for us Hunts and Welshy to name but 2

Tbh I still felt we looked incredibly limited tactically, but as Grayson showed, defensive resilience and good team morale can offset that quite nicely.

Don’t really want to look at negatives after a good performance, so will say it was good to see the back 3 performing so well. The wide centre backs especially won their battles and bar one slip Storey did pretty well in the middle.

WBA were a really interesting side to watch, worked the ball wide to then spin a first time ball back into the middle, where invariably Molumby and one of the full-backs had tucked in, creating an overload.

High risk, but I think in better conditions they’d have been a serious threat in transition. I’d fancy them to batter a few sides this season so good to see our beleaguered defence stand up to the challenge.

West Brom had little triangles going on all over the pitch. They were good to watch.

What could've been really. Molumby didn't do much here but has developed into a solid box to box midfielder. Probably not premier league quality but will always do a job for top half championship team, similar to Browne I think.

Issac Price was sort of rumoured when he was playing in Belgium but again anything above 1m and club gets an insane nosebleed so that was passed up. West Brom could probably sell him for four times what they signed him for especially as Northern Ireland are getting better every game so he's getting great experience at international level.

Heggebo has 12 in just over 50 games so not amazing but similar output to Riis and he'd have been a good replacement. To go from Riis-Osmajici to know crossing fingers that Erabi and Burgzorg might score a league goal once every three months is pretty tragic in a sporting sense.

The one thing to cling onto is West Brom were a total mess as recently as March and going down and James Morrison transformed them as he knows the club inside out, reminds me a bit of what Eddie Howe did at Bournemouth so have to hope Grezza can do that in the long run although I suspect it will take a relegation first to properly clean out the stench on and off the pitch.

What an appalling referee, he should hang his head in shame as well. I'd give him 4/10 on yesterdays performance
He shouldn't be allowed to referee another game this season for the assault on Hughes alone.
That on a Saturday night on Church Street would see you in court Monday morning.
If that had happened in any other game in any division over the weekend, it would be a red card followed by a penalty every time.

So why didn't he give it I wonder? big club syndrome?

The most likely reason wasn't given (and why Hughes didn't appeal) is because he played the ball first.

By the letter of the law currently, it's a penalty for dangerous play and rightly so.
