Alex Marrow Signs on Loan (Confirmed)
I am not knocking youth, obviously as youth can occasionally provide future first team players, however, a couple of years ago I was reading Voldemort' postings about all these brilliant young players coming up through the youth team almost simultaneously.
So far, looking at results, and our league position, since the likes of Mcloughlin, Barton, Mayor, Proctor, Devine, Clark, Douglas, (and one or two others whose names escape me) actually broke into the first team it has been nothing short of almost disasterous.
Am I blaming the youth players? Absolutely not. Many more things have contributed to our club's recent demise, but let's be honest, if they were as good as promised, we wouldn't be struggling in mid table in League one, would we?
There is a time and a place to introduce youth, and it isn't in a struggling third tier team. And let's also be honest and recognise that PNE is not historically very good at bringing youth players through the system into the first team, and beyond.
We may have developed 20 or 30 really good players in my time, and I have been following PNE since 1958/59!!
However, what we used to be really good at was scouring the lower/Scottish/other leagues and spotting players such as Nugent, Whaley, SSL, Fuller, Claude Davis, Mawene (Derby County I know), Mears (Man City I know) etc etc. None of the above cost the earth, and every one of them bar Whaley turned out to be very good players, or brought in a lot more cash when sold, than we spent on them.
Youth players probably won't get us into the Championship, and certainly not the prem, but we came pretty damn close following the previous policy as described above........we should get back to it, when funding is available.

If this signing is true Does anyone know when it will be Annouced etc?
Tomarrow I think.
😀🙄
Where does this leave George Miller? Not necessary just like Andy Procter who is the proverbial pile of tosh.
I have never heard such an idiot in all my life. Procter's played two games for North End along with the new manager being in charge for two games also and you're on his back already. You should be ashamed of your Westley hate campaign and your Miller love in. Who gives a fuck where this leaves Miller. He's been at North End for years and never got a chance under Fergie - who for all his faults gave youth a go - and under Brown who chose Luke Clark ahead of him. Irvine ignored him, so did Fergie, so has Brown and Westley has been in the job two minutes and it appears so has he. This lad is clearly struggling to make it at Preston for whatever reason and the way you're getting het up about him and then taking your clueless hatred out on a new player is disgraceful. I've been reading this forum over the last week and there's so much negativity and it doesn't help anyone. Get behind the club! Get behind the manager and then we might actually go somewhere. While there's so much negativity around we'll go nowhere. Westley needs to give these lads a kick start and until at least the end of the season/start of next he's got my full backing.

I've been keeping a close eye on the youth team lads and have to say I'm a bit disappointed that none of them have really set the world alight. I expected at least a couple to step up to the plate and grasp their chance but for whatever reason it hasn't happened. I believe Graham Westley may just be what some of these lads need. A more vigorous and intensive training may just bring about enough improvement for one or two of them to become excellent players.
Well said ! I cannot believe the predominant attitude amongst fans that Westley is another Beck ,a long ball merchant. Not one for the football purists etc etc. After what we have been witnessing for the last few years he has got to be a refreshing change. He knows what he wants,he knows who he wants and he knows how to get them ! We now have a man strong enough to get rid of the wasters. With a game plan and a thorough idea of what is required to build a group to win more than they lose. Cherish him, welcome him,get behind him he has taken a big chance on us believing we are a step up to fullfill his potential ,make him feel like he has made the right decision. !!!I have never heard such an idiot in all my life. Some others from more distant memory, might include players such as A Kelly, Kendall, Gemmill, Lyall, maybe even Mooney, Mel Holden, Mick Robinson...but we must be careful, as we could be proposing a kind of "trader" concept here..........

Craig Brown was a strange one. His signing's were either spectacular failures or huge success stories.
Good: Mears, Fuller, Mawene, Davis, O'Neil, Gould, Lewis
Bad: Gemmill, Burley, Smith, Lynch, Broomes

I agree but he might have arrived too late for a number of them because we have to drastically reduce squad numbers.

I think Craigs Brown's record in the transfer market was excellent. This is probably the most important skill that the manager of a professional football team has to acquire and Brown was the best we have had in recent times. In my view only Smith and Lynch were real failures and do'nt forget Dickson Etuhu who he signed and who is currently a regular Premiership player

I'm fairly certain Dickson Etuhu was a Moyes signing.

Moyes signed him just before leaving I think .
In the first few games under Moyes Etuhu looked like a world beater

Moyes definitely signed him.
And for much of his PNE career, he looked more like a panel beater.
The forgotten man:Lee Brisco.
Browns transfer dealings were like most managers 60/40, the differance being that his good signings were very good and his bad signings were, bloody awful.
Briscoe was not to bad,he was another Davidson and never fit

RichCawleySLPRichard CawleyRichard Cawley of Southlondon may have jumped the gun with this as the deal hasn't been confirmed. Could well happen, and hopefully will but I guess it will be sorted out tomorrow one way or the other.
This was Richard Cawley's response when somebody (llanroc?) questioned the accuracy of his previous twwet.
"@GrahamMoody It's done Mooders. Trust me".
