We might have everything in place and agreed, but the big thing that needs to be agreed is Devine wanting to return to us.

They'll be others after him in the summer, I'm really not expecting to see him back next year, despite our best efforts.
Everything is sorted both sides, the player is ‘desperate’ to join us.

Did you not see Butter Pie’s post a few weeks back…? Job done.. etc etc

(1) North End have agreed a fee with Spurs. A fee that they must be comfortable with to agree to it.

(2) Alfie has agreed Personal Terms with PNE.

(3) Alfie has also, iirc, relocated back to the Warrington area where he is from.

(4) Given the above, why are people nervous? Both the Club and Alfie are obviously on the same page regards a deal as are Spurs.

(5) It'll be reet.
Agreeing the fee last summer commits us to nothing. Maybe it helped get the loan over the line by, effectively fixing Devines price in the market at a level spurs are happy with.

The nervousness comes from the fact it would pretty much double our record transfer fee in one go. If you're confident that is a realistic prospect then I’d like to know what you know the rest of us don’t!

6) I'm not nervous, I'm just not expecting him to want to sign when other clubs come calling. Which they will. I hope he does sign and stay on, but we're Preston.

Unless we are taken over then I can’t see there being £4.5 million in the budget to sign him plus add others required to replace those who have left.
The £4.5m will be structured over his contract.
He will probably get a five year deal.

The first point is the main issue. I've never had a worry about the rest of it.

Yes, the fee has been agreed, but it's not a cheap option, so it's a completely different kettle of fish actually deciding to commit to triggering that option to buy.

We have exclusivity with this deal over a certain specific timeframe that other clubs cannot cross into.

Chill yer beans.

And he can just refuse to move in that period, knowing Wrexham, Burnley, & Wolves will offer him significantly better terms than what was on offer 12 months ago.

Like I say, I'm very relaxed about it. "Exclusivity" doesn't mean he will agree to join after putting in impressive performance's when other clubs come sniffing.

People just need a bit of realism here when they're assuming it's up to the club to get this done.

Means sod all this.

Even if he was wanting to join his agent's job during that time is to see if he can get a better deal elsewhere at a club with better facilities, better finances, better potential, higher profile.

It'll be about what he can earn elsewhere, I think Riddler already said that the personal terms agreed are very significant or words to that effect, if he carries on as is he'll be offered more elsewhere and so will spurs potentially.

That’s how every transfer is structured yet we’ve never spent even close to that much on a player

Nah, Wrexham or Burnley. He’s just bought a house in Warrington so will want the short commute to training

Driving to Wolverhampton and Burnley from Warrington takes pretty much the exact same time.

Wrexham will likely go in hard for him after three good performances against them this season. Most likely destination if he's bothered about locality, but his new house could be for his parents for all we know.

Ridsdale is, as per usual, stretching the truth to breaking point. They have been in regular conversations with Devine but he is completely keeping his options open. There is no agreement or commitment in place with him.

Unless we have new owners, I cannot see a situation where Alfie is with us next season.

I find it impossible to believe after years of this ownership buying players from approx £2m max were suddenly going to go to double that. Never going to happen.
Have to agree with this. But then why is the option even there?

What I do like is that we've actually done some work in terms of rebuilding the squad so it doesn't feel like we need to stretch our budget out over 13-14 players this time.

If we are going to do it then for Christ's sake get it done and dustd and ready to announce as soon as the window opens. This can't be another one that drags on all summer and ends in disappointment. Either get it done or move on.

Genuine question, are Burnley, Wrexham and Wolves interested in Devine? Or is that speculation/Media talk?
