"The fee is thought to be in excess of £5million. North End plan to spread their payments but it would still see the club more than double its transfer record. However, Devine still has the final say on any move this summer and while discussions are scheduled for next week, he is under no pressure to rush into a decision."

The deal is not done, as I understand it. You young fellas are gun jumping or has Devine said he'll sign?
I've never really understood how these option to buy deals work. I thought that maybe when the deal is first made with a club to loan their player, there must be some agreement with the player and the loaning club in place for their potential contract should the clause be activated? Otherwise, this option to buy is essentially worthless no?

No it's just an official agreement between the two clubs on the fee and then get exclusivity on the player up until a certain date.

There could be informal discussions with the player about wages and such, but it's not a signed thing.

Not worthless but subject to agreement by Devine. Further than that I wouldn't know, cheers !

Its basically a period of exclusivity as far as I am aware with an agreed fee.

For example Spurs probably know they could get more than £5m for Devine after his season. But they signed an agreement to sell him to us for that last summer.

We have triggered it. The problem is the player can refuse if his agents been tipped off someone else wants him and he would rather go there for more money, bigger club etc.

It'd more than likely be better for his agent to push through a double move of us signing him, then somone buying him from us as occasionally does happen with loans like this, as it means more money for his agent.

As happened very recently with Tammy Abraham, transferred twice in two days for around £5 million profit.

Tough one for North End if that happens. They’d be doing the right thing for a well run club, taking the pure profit to invest elsewhere. But would probably trigger a more negative reaction from the fanbase than if they just didn’t trigger the option

Yeah the immediate reaction would definitely be bad. Especially with how popular he is. But as long as it's backed up with money being spent, and done well, then it should be seen as a positive.

Paying the fee was the first hurdle.

Paying the wages he wants and quashing interest from Wolves and Celtic, that was the worry for me.

Announce this on Monday and you might find me in town.
We will find you in town on Monday ! don’t get much but I’m very very confident having had a conversation yesterday that the Devine deal is done and will be announced Monday 🥰

This is what I think would benefit everyone. He's first name on the team sheet and 12 months off a massive deal rather than going to Wolves and playing second fiddle to say, Mane.

We just need to accept that we need to sell him on fairly quickly (something I don't think PNE fans with their post Hugill anxiety really gets).

Are ITKers saying this is done then?
