We went under the real cosh when the Flapper Barton came on. It was the usaul back to wall job as the ball was not sticking up front.

Why did we not just put the hapless Juvel on and Hume would not of had to work so hard???? and thus still giving us the 4-4-2 and being as strong as we were early?

In fairness, its not often you conceede 59% of possession over 90 mins and win.

If its an omen then fine, but it smells of our early season 'non convincining' form.

Still its an early crimbo present.

Barton was awful, hes the only player I know who constantly makes himself "unavailable" for a pass. Ive been totally underwhelmed by him if im honest.

Still playing with his head lodged firmly up his own arse.

He needs to realise he isn't that good. Hence why he is on the bench

I feel exactly the same as the OP, I would have thought if Hemmings does give the new manager any transfer budget, you would expect it to be spent on a forward and/or left back

Hume would of been knackered, then when tired there would be no striker to replace him. Was the correct decision IMO. Just Barton didn't play well, he's only young though.

Another local getting a bashing on here, what a surprise. He was asked to come on and play out of Position, he did that, was unlucky to be booked IMO and did ok. Once we lost the 4-4-2, our cofidence going forward was always going to take a knock and we did what we had to do. Defend and how we defended was excelliant. Get off the players back. They did well. UTW.

I couldnt care less if he came from Kathmandu, he was poor, simple as.

I'll disagree with the comments about Barton here as I did on the match thread. I thought he showed some real application and an ability at times to keep possession. He is never going to be a tough tackler and needs to be played in a context where there are two or even three other midfielders able to assert themselves and win the ball. Mellor was looking good before he was injured. If he can be back for the next match and Hume can have another week to get himself fit - he was a shadow of himself tonight - we will be OK upfront, even more so if, hopefully, we also have Proctor for the bench. Tsoumou is just a raw youth at the moment. It is possible he might yet turn into a useful player, but he is a long way off.

This is exactly right. Not sure why nobody else can see this. Grezza and Unsworth knew we had, realistically 75 mins of Hume so we would have had nobody to replace him with.

It also sums up our fans that we go to a team flying high in the table, unbeaten at home and beat them, yet they still find something to moan about.

I also though he actually did okay tonight / plus he took one hell of an elbow from their centre half.

Errrrrmm I love local lads, but My original post was not directly aimed at Barton. It was the thinking of acutaually putting him on in that postion in the first place based on last week.

He echoed his useless performance of last week, but when the squad is as weak as it is, how does any manager turn us around???

Play players in there correct positions from the start...as per the original 11 and then do the same when making subs.

Enjoy today, but a long road is ahead.

Barton is meant to be highly rated, with clubs looking at him. Apart from the Burnley game last year, what has he really done? Is he a midfielder who creates, or one who can tackle? For me he does neither, but strolls around, producing the odd good pass, but when it matters like the last minute chance against Stevenage, does not go fully into the challenge.

The game changed when we lost Mellor and reverted from the 4-4-2. In all honesty, with 5 in midfield after Barton came on, they shouldn't have been able to threaten as much as they did. The fact that that one change turned the game, the fault must lie with either Barton or the management. Whoever is to blame, that substitution nearly cost us the game - end of.

Thats fucking bollox...Hume would of lasted 90mins if he hadnt played the 40 mins alone and had he had Juvel with him and not Barton, he would of lasted longer. Juel could of seen the time out on his own, without hume, like he did anyway,
as he dinyway with Barton as an extra midfielder.

Sqaure pegs in square holes.

What a load of shit you talk.
