Take a bow son, for a young 17 year old, playing your first game at senior level and out of position you did yourself very proud. A great debut performance. all the best for the future. 🙂

His pass to Holmes in the build up to Cummins' goal was top class. Wonderful vision and dropped it right on his target.

Would have preferred for him to be taken off at half-time and replaced by Buchanan in all honesty. Coventry fired everything down their right-hand side because they knew it was a weakness and although Davies comes out of the game with a lot of credit, the way he kept backing off left plenty of opportunity for Coventry attacks.

That said, when your wingers refuse to track back, and you're playing alongside one of the more timid characters in the team in Bailey Wright, it wasn't a bad debut.

Barker played very well against Davies and was well supported when they attacked down our left, ok it was his debut but I thought he really struggled and was not helped one bit with the way our captain did little or nothing to help him through.

He looks good with the ball at his feet and he played two cracking balls in for the goals. That being said....positionally he's lacking in a big way. He was out of his depth in the first half and could have cost us 2 or 3 goals. I don't blame him for this though as he's a young lad who was being played out of position. I thought it was irresponsible of Westley to throw him in like that. Could have ended in tears if it wasn't for Stuckmann. I hope to see him in his preferred position in the future.

Did well despite being thrown in at the deep end.

Coventry played everything down that side, In fact I don't think they attacked down the other side at all.

That said despite an iffy start Davies did well and looks a decent prospect and credit to him.

That said still think it was a gamble not worth taking and Buchanan should of started.

+1 ^^^^^^

The moves for both of our goals were started by Ben Davies, the 1st goal was started with a great pass from Davies to Holmes from there on wards we kept in & around their box until Monakanna crossed it for Cummins to score. for our 2nd goal Davies crossed it in with his weaker right foot for king to knock down for Nicky Wroe to score. I must admit though that by playing him out of position that did show especially by Baker, but I do think that it wasn't a bad debut for a 17 year old.

Not sure you would say left back is out of position, as he has played in that position all his life until recently.

The lad did well in the second half although as previously said his pass to Holmes in the build up to the first was superb.
Tough game for him against Baker but he did well

I thought Davies got better as the game went on, having said that took a yellow card, which looked a bit harsh, and their winger did look like he could have had the beating of him when the ball would roll for him and not bobble ten yards in the air.

For a youth team player he looked far better than most players his age when they made their debut, even going back to the likes of McKenna, Kilbane, and all of the youth team players from the past 3 years..

Plenty of promise, he seemed good in the air and comfortable on the ball. A little on the skinny side but it's better to be tall and lean than short and fat.

In two or three years he could be a decent player. Whether he'll still be at Preston NE is another matter.

Also, did anyone notice the pat on the back that Westley gave him when he took him off? Almost like it was two fingers to the fans and Westley saying "I got that one right".

When I first saw him he looked like someone from a probiotic yoghurt advert...he was exposed on a number of occasions early doors but did settle to give a very promising debut.
In the circumstances I would give him an '8' and it was a nice gesture by the sponsors to give him the MOM.
However, I still don't think he is ready and should not have played ahead of Buchanan.

Let's face it. For whatever reason, Buchanan hasn't fitted in and is out of here. I've written before about Buchanan coming in because GW didn't think he would get Laird and then he did. To be fair to DB, this would cheese me off, and I think it has gone from there. I assume we will be getting a new left back in the remaining window, if we can move DB on.

What the hell does this mean? I agree with your post, he did well on debut although I feared the worst when Coventry dominated and attacked that side, he looked exposed and could have honestly cost us. He improved and Coventry were poor in the second half.

I still don't know why Buchanan wasn't played!

Buchanan has been our best player in the last six weeks or so for me. Consistent run in the first team had done him a world of good.

Not sure Westley is keen on him though, seem to remember he dropped him and then said something about Buchanan not being able to understand his tactics and playing SCS at left back instead. Which was a disaster IIRC.
