Ben Whiteman

Ben Whiteman

I can’t see what value he adds. Gally would offer more if he came out of retirement.

I know we don’t spend a lot on players but when we do; Bayliss, Ledson, Riis, Potts and Whiteman they are normally not good enough

I wonder who is responsible for buying all these players (oh and selling the few) and "enjoying" some agent commission?????

The midfield, including him, offer absolutely nothing.

Him, Browne & DJ were absolutely hopeless last night & have been for months.

Never a holding midfielder, simply.

Needs a sitter alongside him for him to get upfield and play balls in behind the defence. Having him sit deep and lump it forward is a waste of everyone's time.

Decent player, just another being played in the wrong position.
And I think that’s the case with half the team, we play them in the wrong position and never the position they are good in. It’s been a make do and mend squad for a couple of seasons.

In hindsight you can’t blame the two Bens for wanting out, or Alex Neil for giving up.

Its those at the top that are letting club, fans and players down

I think a lot of the problems our midfield (not just Whiteman) face at the moment comes from the lack of width in this 5-3-2.

There's nobody ever in space in front of him when he picks up the ball. Gally always had Robinson or Barky hugging the touchline in the 4-2-3-1 so could ping a ball across the pitch. The way we play now our wide players are stuck either side of our own 18yrd box, so we have to punt it forward centrally or play a short ball to another tightly marked midfielder and lose posession.

There's no options for our creative players but that is down to the horrific hoofball the head coach wants us to play.

You can't have watched the game.

He wasn't the only one obviously but he was dreadful.

He's a very limited footballer IMHO.
I think my comment is more based off how poor the rest of them were. Maybe Sepp and Earl could be argued to have had better games. The rest were miles off it

He has joined a Team that was struggling, he has been played out of position, (Pearson departed and wasn’t replaced), he is not a no.6, he was bought to replace an ageing Gally. He now finds himself caught between two roles (sitting too deep and having to win the ball) he’s left a Team who played football and is now part of a team playing something resembling agriculture. He is a footballer and is being totally wasted. With Pearson behind him and a quality coach/manager who wants to play football, we would be seeing a very different player. Riis is another being wasted, whilst there is plenty to work on, he does make some very good runs in behind but receives no service at all. Another that wants to play football but instead receives hoof ball. We desperately need a quality coach who wants to play progressive football and who can balance defense and attack. There are plenty in UK and Europe.

He has been a huge disappointment. He doesnt even strike me as a good league 1 player, the odd flash here and there, Absolute garbish so he fits in very well here. I paid close attention to the midfield yesterday and apart from a few good passages of play the quality, the movement and execution was so poor it made me grimace. I recall DJ getting the ball in a good pocket of space on the edge of the area and instead of putting his foot on it or turning he pinged the ball 15 yards backwards into a position which offered no threat. On their day this midfield can be good, ive seen it before but you those days have gone. This team have gone very bad and we need to replace the lot!

Don't become a scout, Simon! That is one shocking take.

He was by far the best midfielder in League 1 (and it wasn't even close).

To be fair to the midfield when you have a clearly un fit Evans and I can't be arsed Potts to aim for what do you expect. I think FM should live my the sword or die by it and play the fit much lorded youngsters sooner rather than later. It is no use bringing them on when the season has gone. What's the old adage "if you're good enough you're old enough "
United team of 92(wankers) proved it.
Bellingham at Birmingham
Owen at Liverpool
Grealish at Villa
KENDALL AT PRESTON
