Matchday Thread Bolton Wanderers v PNE | 15.08.26 | KO:12:30pm | Championship

Ridiculous tactics from the manager, limited commitment from the players ... May as well not have bothered playing full backs at all! Which other club in world football would sign their record signing md then play him out of position in the first game? Bonkers! Get rid of Heckingbottom right now ... Where te fuck is Zedan ????
Why, what could he have done about it? He doesn’t own the club….yet.

Our goal?

Delightful run, cross and executed finish.

Devine through ball before bone idle Osmajic pass was pretty sweet too.

Thierry Small absolutely skinning his man before Lindsay’s 50p header was good too.

Once the right players where on the pitch we absolutely dominated and played pretty well, we only had fuckin 20 mins with them on there though.

Far too tolerant, professional sport is a ruthless business and the results over his tenure are not good enough.
You point out 2 mistakes he made today but those are mistakes he has made before.
He could have started with the new guy from the start, no need for time to get used to our style of play because we don't really have one, unless hoof and chase is considered a style.
If I was the prospective new owner I would want him gone before committing extra funds.

Perhaps but what’s the alternative? Pot him now, bring in someone who then needs his own set of players and system again, give him approximately 1 week to sign those players before inevitably panic buying them in January and us taking another 12-18 months to build an expensive squad around a new man’s system.

It’s not going to happen, he’ll have until Christmas regardless.

Bolton will come away from that feeling comfortable they can compete, confident in the Championship.

The reality is they’ve just played against arguably the worst back four and centre-midfield pairing in the league - had we started with the team that ended the game, we might have had half a chance. We desperately need a centre-half, as Lindsay, Storey and Gibson have already proved they are way off it.

Not every new manager demands or gets a completely different set of players. A good manager starts by looking at what he has and then chooses a style of play to suit them and then if he wants a different style does that gradually over a period of time.
Whatever our style of play is under PH it wouldn't take much to improve it. Give him until Xmas would just waste half the season.

We need Whiteman's replacement. I hope the lad from Liverpool is the answer if we get him.

And yes, we need a CB

Friend who never leaves early , did so yesterday after 74 minutes saying he had better things to do than watch that rubbish. Things are not getting better Heckywise, don’t think the new owners will be happy with him.
Missed the best part for us then. As did some others. We improved after the first lot of subs. And then again with the second lot.

Don't get why people do this unless we're getting absolutely tonked. But each to their own.

Yeah I bet the new man would be buzzing to come in and galvanise a defence with Lindsay Storey, Pol and Hughes involved. Thompson sitting in front of them. Just seems a bit mental to boot him just as soon as the squad becomes semi decent and clearly with his input in building it.

We haven’t had a style of play since we’ve had the same spine of this squad, it seems we are working on changing that. No manager is coming in and working wonders with this squad at the minute. So there would have to be an overhaul regardless, once that’s addressed for me he gets the benefit of doubt.

Differing opinions isn’t it.

None of our managers who have ever come in have had their own players, it’s never worked for us. Top tier managers don’t waltz into midtable championship sides as we’ve seen for the last 10 years.

Leroy looked 10 times the player Whiteman is in 20 minutes. He’ll be the answer, hopefully Liverpool lad is just as good but regardless, a McCann, Leroy, Divine three playing centrally is already better than a McCann, Whiteman, Divine trio, add the Liverpool lad and hopefully we’re flying in that department.

Leroy definitely looks more of an Armstrong replacement than a Whiteman replacement. I'd expect McConnell to play in that anchor role.

It’s all quite complimentary though is my point, and also that we just stand in better stead, in some ways whitemans been replaced because we just don’t need an average player of his profile.

I’m not seeing where our newly appointed club captain fits into the team with the new players and that doesn’t include Mills. 442 or 433 there is no place for McCann. McConnell isn’t coming to sit on the bench

Yeah could be true, he’ll have his moments when he’s necessary though. West Ham/Boro/Wolves etc. When we need someone tireless to put his body on the line out of possession.

Someone mentioned the “club captain” thing that got announced, maybe alludes to him not having to be on every minute, sceptical myself but, let’s see.

Either way, major competition and improvements on what we have had for the last 2-3 years is only a good thing.

Well the manager picked that defence yesterday, even though he had options,so what does that say about him?
The last paragraph is a a very wide generalisation. As I have said previously, if I was the prospective new owner I would not be making more funds available to this manager.
As for giving PH the benefit of the doubt, I don't see much doubt regarding his ability.

I believe we are now stuck with Thompson, Lindsey, Storey as does anyone really believe we will be able to sell any. The decision to extend Hughes looks daft, should have been let go.

Was a balls up but again, not really a wealth of options was there.

2 of Storey, Lindsay and Pol where starting regardless.

Fair enough if you were the new owners, but I’m pretty sure if they wanted him gone they wouldn’t be committing 10 million quid to new players would they. I’m not having for a minute that the Hemmings crew have spent 3x what they usually do without some form of conversation with Zedan himself.

It’s fair enough too re his ability, but he does have a championship promotion under his belt.

Have to agree to disagree, I don’t think he’s bulletproof at all, just don’t think now’s the time to pot him personally. Won’t be conducive to much.
