We've learnt nothing in nearly 60 years
The PNE Board meeting minutes of February 26th 1967 are significant, recording the following stated aims and future direction of the board after effectively having their fingers burned over the transfers of Wilson and Kendall. “It was generally agreed that the acquisition of higher priced players would present too many problems for a club of our standing.” As a consequence, for the next 27 years emerging talent would be moved on early to catch a yield and replaced by players ‘who had been around the block.’ The North End spiral of decline had been set in motion.
